"Mommy daddy can I play?"
"Well first you have to go to the DMV and register the toy, with the purchase agreement. Before you can use it you have to get a license but make sure you clean all the snow off it and fill it up first."
"Uhhh"
"Oh and you'll be stuck in traffic 2 hrs a day. Have fun! 😊❤️"

Yeah it's bonkers. Even the separated routes are slow due to lack of signal priority.

Toronto trams are the same. Like 250m between some spots. Absurdly short for trams.

Remember, if you plan cities for cars and traffic, you get cars and traffic.

If you plan cities for people and places, you get people and places.

I'll tell you the thing I hate most about that article is that it says middle East conflict instead of ideological war started by Israel and the United States.

Iran is far from perfect but lordy lordy Media needs to do a better job of stating the actual facts: USA and Israel forced all into this

It's wild to me that groups suggest that lower income folks drive more.

Do those groups have any grasp of how expensive cars are?

Minimum wage can barely afford someone a car payments and food, let alone housing.

Vehicle ownership poverty is a serious issue in much of the world.

Not to mention all the wankpanzers don't fit in parking garages. You'd think all the rough and tough working folk would be fine leaving their emotional support vehicles on the road with their rugged durability.

Every truck should require a special license and be commercial insurance.

How Paris beat the car Though chaotic, the city’s transition has become a global role model

The city’s transition away from the car, tho fantastically chaotic, has become a global role model. Under mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social, Paris was “the most influential city in the world”, says Canadian urbanist Brent Toderian. Hidalgo, stepping down after 12 yrs, exulted: “The bike beat the car.”

Yes to this!

On International women's day, tell one shitty fella off.

We need a thousand more Steve Smith's (Red Green) and Rick Mercers and zero PP's and Joe Rogan's.

I feel like 90's Canadian TV had far better shows to teach young fellas how to be good people compared to now.

Cars cost us literally hundreds of millions of dollars just in St. John's. About a hundred million per year. We just kick 80 million down the road per year.

I don't hate cars. I hate how they lose us money, space, lives and are damaging the environment.

We need viable alternatives to cars.

Never forget, the electric car is here to save the car industry, not the planet.

Read this thread.

War wastes trillions. Highways waste hundreds of billions.

Everything else on that list is very much needed.

Do you remember the fall of Digg? I'll never forget the community raging at the 20 odd users that posted most everything that went front page, including mrbabyman. That account is forever in my head 😐

It's often small groups that make controlling conversations their job.

I feel the same way about highway expansions. A lot can be done with the money wasted on Highway lane expansions which fail to address traffic.

Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.

“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas and city center in 2021.”

If you see an expensive car parked illegally, ticket that mofo!!

In this case I was that mofo and I'll gladly pay a ticket. 😅 I messed up parking while helping a friend with their plumbing.

Curious if @eddiesheerr.bsky.social knows the average wind speed in St. John's so far this January. I feel like it might be above 35km/hr

I truly believe that motor vehicles have to be classified as deadly weapons. No more 'accidents'. List attention and drive without endangering anyone.

Doing that would completely change the culture around the driving.

We also need robust expansive public transit and alternatives to cars.

I think this is a neat way to display the population. All the data comes from statistics Canada from the 2021 census.

The bottom centre of each bar is the geographic center of each population centered as defined in the Stats Canada and NL databases.

As a reminder to people, there should be a census next year. It will be a very important statistics snapshot post Covid. The Census is critical to understanding where funds are needed, and where population centres have shifted.

This is a map showing every single population centre as defined Provincially, from Nain to Margaree.

The bars are proportional to each-other, with a cap of the 111750 being attributed to St. John's. The bottoms of each bar are the 'centre point' of the population cluster.

Only downside to Shannon Park is that HFX doesn't yet have a BRT or tramway 😊 it's a great development. It has a rail corridor right there. Cmon HFX. Stop building highways FFS
