A black and white photo of Joseph Bell with white hair looking down and reading a book, next to an original illustration of Holmes smoking a pipe.
My next book (October 20) is on the Victorian medical detective Joseph Bell. SLEUTH-HOUND is a whirlwind tour of Victorian forensics from the perspective of the man who loaned a voice and razor-sharp logic to Baker St.โs famous resident: Sherlock Holmes. /1

The first panel shows a crow with the title "How to live a good life". The second panel shows a crow cawing at itself in the mirror with the subheading "Make friends". The next panel says "Explore" and shows a crow looking into a commercial waste bin. The next says "Try new things" with a crow eating something vile. The next one says "Be curious" and shows the crow grabbing a hissing cat's tail". The final frame says "Get a hobby" and shows the crow looking closely at a book of matches.

Cannot wait. I got to talk to the team behind this in 2023, who told me: "Believe it or not, this is 100% stop-motion, including the explosions and sawdust. We filmed the sawdust separately (tried millions of takes...) and layered the best version with the characters."

Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial
Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later.

Personally don't recommend these. As the article notes, these properties are typically achieved through PFAS, which can shed carcinogens in your home (which you then inhale) or come out in the wash (polluting waterways for decades). Will try to do a thread on how to treat stains in the wash.

I know at first glance many folks might be inclined to dismiss these as "who needs that", but it really is a shame to think of skills, crafts, something that someone used to dedicate their life to to make useful things, dying out because they weren't practiced.

A banner with text that reads Ducks in a Row | Duxxx in a Row, Curated Collections of Queer Stories. Beside this are two mock-ups of books, their cover titles matching the text. Duxxx shows art of a line of people sunning themselves on the beach while reading, and Ducks shows a group of people cuddling in a pillowfort while one of them reads aloud. There's a "Projects We Love - Kickstarter" badge in the upper right corner.

This is an informative thread for Canadians, about the Carney cuts to the heritage sector. Enormously damaging impact to heritage.

The degradation of society:
1. Celebrating the k!lling of a CEO
2. Cheering on warehouse arsons
3. Making heroes out of people who attempt political violence
You can be outraged at the system and still not glorify violence. These aren't wins. This is a society losing its moral compass.
[Coming from a liberal btw]
I donโt know how people keep forgetting that workers rights were entirely written in blood and the capital class had to be threatened with violence before they agreed to things like 8 hour working days and 2 day weekends.

Eliminating libraries in prisons is a disaster, completely shortsighted. Libraries are a lifeline for incarcerated people who want to learn and grow, and have few other options.

Most prescient, clear/eyed work of writing Iโve read on reorg.
Read it.
Then act.
โCall your senators. Call your representative. Not next week or later. Now.
Tell them this is not a reorganization โ itโs the destruction of a federal agency by executive fiat and that Congress must intervene.โ
