The UK government has announced £9,000 subsidies for households with oil and LPG boilers to get a heat pump.

This is seriously good deal for rural homes - not only does it lower the upfront cost, a mid-sized home could save over £650 a year by switching from oil to a heat pump at current prices...

Nothing has killed more soldiers in the history of humanity than disease. While worst is a more complicated question Hegseth is absolutely the dumbest secretary of defense the United States has ever had. bsky.app/profile/ones...

I really wish we started treating Twitter in the same way we did 4chan. The legacy of what Twitter was and the problematic relationship people have with it prevent them from seeing that it’s 4chan. Yeah it can be funny, interesting, and wild…but you’re still on /b/ and /pol/… it’s bad for you.

Worth pointing out that Wehrmacht stubbornly held to the Nikopol bridgehead over the Dneper in 1943/44 to protect their manganese mining operation, so it’s not exactly unprecedented-and it’s almost the same area.

"My son always texts to say he's on his way home. So I open the door, letting his 17 year old cat, and 16 year old doggo know that he's on his way. This is them waiting for him. Though it was adorable, and wanted to share." ❤️

Somewhere in his writings Samuel R. Delany talks about living in London in the early 1970s and going upstairs to see who was playing amazing piano and getting to know that person and becoming friends with them and of course it was Tim Curry

Diane Abbott gets to a key point: After "I/No. 10 was not informed" the question has to be who asked whom to inform them, how often and how hard?

As a Catholic, this of course upsets me.

But far and away more upsetting is all the kids the IDF has killed.

Faculty Defect From Texas Publics, Citing Censorship Fed up with the state’s censoring of Plato, Joan of Arc and Romeo and Juliet, humanities professors are leaving Texas public institutions in pursuit of academic freedom.

'Texas A&M philosophy professor Martin Peterson is leaving the university after administrators told him in January that he couldn’t teach Plato’s Symposium in his philosophy class; they said the ancient Greek philosopher’s work violated the system’s restrictions on gender and sexuality content.' 1/3

Has anyone done a proper deep study of what reading a book actually involves, psychologically, neurologically and so on? Because it occurs to me that quite a lot of AI/creative initiatives are premised on a rather limited understanding of what that interaction actually looks like.

Don't bring a knife to a gunfight. Bring a knife to a vault containing many wheels of cheese in a brutalized postapocalyptic society where knives are only a legend. You are now Knifebringer, Divider of the Cheese. Raise your knife and rule the clans.
