There were a ton of them there that day. The terns are in front and the brown blob in the back is part of the hundreds (if not thousands) of avocets I saw there as well.

The altamira oriole is bright yellow with black eyes and a black goatee and wings of gray and white. It is perched on a natural wood feeder and has its head turned to look at the camera.

The hummingbird is on the side of a feeder with its bill inserted. The wings are blurred but you can see the iridescent green of the head and neck and the buff underbelly.

A brown thrush is standing in profile on a natural wood feeder. It is darker on its back and lighter on its belly. It isn't a very exciting bird as far as color goes, but I find it to be quite handsome.

A somewhat floofed up dove is perched on a small branch with its head turned to its left. The dove is mostly light to medium gray, but it has a vibrant blue eye ring and white edges to its wings. The background is blurred greenery.

They are! And their whistling call is so much fun.

A duck stands on one foot among a bed of dried out reeds with its head tucked into its wing. The gray-brown face with the dark brown mohawk and white-ringed dark eye are showing, but the bill is mostly buried. The duck's body is mostly a rich chestnut brown with lighter wing edges and a barely visible black belly. The legs and feet, one of which is retracted up under the body, are pink.

Same! Started with scissors and then brought out the clippers. I got a bit carried away, but the only people to see me was my family on our weekly zoom calls so it didn't really matter. But, lordy, it was not attractive.

A large white bird is framed by greenery as it stands in profile with one leg raised. The face and legs are a deep pinkish-red and the long downward curved bill is a lighter shade of pink (but is stained black at the end from digging in the mud). The eye is blue.

An Osprey leans forward with a piercing look in its large yellow eye. The bird's head and neck are mostly white with thin streaks of brown behind its curved black beak and above the eye, and a thick brown streak that goes from behind the eye down to the neck and back. The throat is covered with brown-tipped white feathers. The wings are a dark brown and the chest is white. The background of the photo is a pale blue sky.

I didn't either until I saw this one! In 2019, they said that there were 700 of them in far SE Texas and that they are the official mascot of the City of Brownsville. 😄
