The SAFEST team at the University of Tartu and Tartu University Hospital organized a session on "The journey of a patient undergoing surgery - Safety First," which addressed perioperative safety & the journey of a surgical patient from the perspective of the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and patient.

Carola Orrego Villagrán, our Principal Investigator from Fundación Avedis Donabedian, presented the SAFEST project in a short oral communication, sharing insights from our collaborative work across European hospitals.
Our partners from Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, represented by Paulo Sousa, delivered the Plenary Keynote: “A New Era for Patient Safety,” highlighting global challenges and opportunities in advancing safer care.
SAFEST was proudly featured at ISQua’s 41st International Conference in São Paulo, Brazil!
💡 He provided an overview of the SAFEST perioperative safety standards and the results of the self-assessment carried out based on these standards at the Tartu University Hospital!
🏥 Prof. Joel Starkopf, Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the University of Tartu, gave a presentation entitled "Patient safety and perioperative care – how far we are from European standards?" at the #BaltAnestIC2025 conference held on 18-20 September!
