Our child attended city public schools. It took me a while to decode white-people-speak. Saying a school “doesn’t reflect the neighborhood,” “isn’t what it used to be,” or “has a discipline problem” all referred to different racial makeups of the student body. Eventually I figured it out.
Sometimes people point out I could just go buy a sweater or a hat or a pair of socks instead of knitting them.
In addition to agreeing with all you said, I appreciate your using the word “girl.” Every time I read “underage woman” my head explodes.

When you enroll in a graduate program in public health, the intro lectures tout vaccines as “the greatest public health achievement of the 20th century” so many times that you get tired of hearing it.
I sent my brother a recipe, and he said he would share it with my nephew, and I added “Double the zest,” and now I feel like that’s really good advice for life.
I work in public health. If I were to write policy recommendations based on non-existent research, I would be fired. And for good reason.
