❤️🙏. I’ll be taking photos of the aftermath when I go up in a few weeks.

These areas that are burning are remnant parts of Gondwanaland and this vegetation does not regenerate after fire. Wildfires did not burn here before ~ otherwise this vegetation would not exist. It has NEVER burnt here before. Stands of Huon pines have burnt that were over 1000 years old.

Climate change has caused hotter, drier summers in Tasmania, and so storms which used to have rain, now often only have thunder and lightning. And the ground and vegetation are dry due to the hot dry summers. Lightning with no rain ignited remote forests difficult to access.

Actually , perhaps you read it differently from how I intended. I said that the wildfire here was caused by dry lightning strikes which are an increasing phenomenon due to climate change. The dry lightning strikes I mean. And these dry lightning strikes are increasing because of climate change.

Lots of hearts are breaking. It’s worse than tragic. I’ll be going up there in a few weeks but I’m already hearing about the massive extent of the loss of forest.

Thank you Lalit! The tannins released into the water by some of our rainforest plants, creating the tea brown colour, also helps create this foam that forms when there is water turbulence or fast motion.

Thanks Andreas. I’m really hoping this place survives the fires burning here right now.

Lovers Falls.

An image from a place under threat. Wildfires ignited by dry lightning strikes ( an increasing phenomenon of climate change) are currently burning in this area, the Tarkine, in Tasmania’s NW. Not sure if this spot has gone at this point.

It is a place with so much variation in a harsh and powerful landscape.

You too. This seems like a supportive, positive space. So far I like it. My social media use has diminished significantly though. I find it healthy to restrict time on screens.

The building on the far right at the top of that hill is an old palace/ temple. The other structures you can see on the ridge as it descends are chortens ( stupas).
