My students don’t engage in the traditional academic way. We created an impromptu Statue of Liberty rap today. Natural lyricism with a live performance. That is all. I love my job.

Some students like Married at First Sight. Others prefer Niccolò Machiavelli. I’m fine with The Prince. We talk about political realism and turbulent Italy in the 16th century. It’s MaFS I’m struggling with. I don’t like the nice guy narrative or transactional relationships. Pupils objectify women.

I had some poetic profanities from students today. It was a day for rhyming couplets and Functional Skills papers.
Maroilles, Saint-Nectaire and Crottin de Chèvre. 🧀💕

Toad mops his sweaty face with his handkerchief. From "The Garden" In *Frog and Toad Together*
“And now you will have a nice garden too,” said Frog.
“Yes,” said Toad, “but you were right, Frog. It was very hard work.”

Really important blog from @clairestoneman.bsky.social. Caring for relatives will be affecting teachers in every school and it’s often invisible.

Nostalgia is comforting, but in truth the “good old days” weren’t perfect, just familiar. We did what fitted that world. Today’s world is a little different, but still still familiar, and so are we. Decline? No, just more change.
Marking, planning and CPD are in my contracted hours. I have a weekend task though. My students like Love Island and Married at First Sight (MaFS). I need to build rapport so I’m watching reality television. Incidents? Fine. Derogatory comments? I can manage that. Rt is the real personal challenge.
#FridayFive has an accent.
1. Mulder and Scully. Catatonia.

My setting is similar to alternative provision. We have tactile toys and visual aids. The students use fidgets for sensory grounding. It was a pleasant surprise this week. I’m still a new face. I want to avoid inadvertent conflict.
