I've played Half-Life more times than I can count, but somehow there are still things to discover??! Who else knew there's a secret scientist hiding outside the front door in Unforeseen Consequences????? This is WILD to me

Replaying right now! In software mode at 640x480 too, because who needs texture filtering when you have pixels big enough to have their own postcode?
The saddest part is how many games get canned in those depths of despair, and then forever live in the realm of 'man I swear we could've fixed that if we'd just had more time/money/talent/other'
I don't post on here often, but when I do? Hoo boy! You better believe it's because I have a take that is... tepid at best.
I hope Dropout TV has a plan*, because the predictable just happened after Bending Spoons bought Vimeo.

* For a critical supplier like Vimeo I'd normally expect something like notification on upcoming change of control + change of control clauses
Apparently my 2025 Miro Recap just dropped, and I can't think of anything I want less

The games industry continues its tireless efforts towards net zero (employees remaining)
Signed up! Will be lovely to meet/catch up with folks!
Not sure that was true on release, but after a few patches, sure - definitely much better than its reputation suggests!

I’ve watched travel videos of real places like Dotonbori (Sotenbori in Yakuza), and it’s an incredibly surreal experience to know exactly what’s coming up around a corner on a street I’ve never actually walked down, in a city I’ve never actually visited
Is there a YouTube series where someone compares the cities in Yakuza/Like a Dragon games to the real places they’re based on?
(and if not, why not?)
Just a little reminder if you want to find UK based narrative gamedev folks. I have a starter pack here.
Still had space l, so feel free to recommend folks including yourself.

A promo image for the game X Operations, showing a low-poly soldier standing guard on a wooden walkway.
A screenshot of the X Operations level select menu, with all-caps level names like BUILDING_DEF, OFFICE_KT2, and MBASE_CAP.

A screenshot from X Operations showing two low-poly soldiers engaged in a shootout in a dark tunnel.
Anybody else remember X Operations, the Japanese freeware jankfest FPS from the early 00s?
Feels like if it came out today it would sit right alongside deliberately wonky retro fare like Cruelty Squad.
Wow! You did a fantastic job matching the original artwork - very impressed!
‘writers just want to tell a good story’ - false
what we actually want is to find new and exciting ways to sneak our silly little hobbies and special interests into every script
it’s very possible the config for one was duplicated from an earlier puzzle and we just forgot to update the file reference, but it’s been a few years now so I couldn’t say for sure

The entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf is the only human.
yeah we were extremely pressed for time when it came to playtesting & polish on case 4 in particular, but glad you enjoyed regardless! Wish we could’ve cleaned it up more, but happy with the ending we pulled off with the resources available.

11 hours into Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and I swear I’ll get back to the main story soon, I just need to do a couple more substories and a few more minigames and
For any who need to hear this: the game industry can be a cruel & hard place. It's particularly bad right now. If you can't find work it's not necessarily a judgement on you. There are a lot of talented, experienced, & genuinely lovely folks who are also having trouble. You're in good company.
People who played Murder by Numbers: do you have any particular favourite scenes / interactions that stick in your memory (for good reasons)? I need to put together some samples for a potential gig.
Annoyingly, I don't have the script anymore, so I'll have to transcribe from a play-through 😭

Hello fellow word-chefs!
Are there any decent IF authoring tools for mobile?
Would love to be able to noodle around in Twine or Ink on ipad but… looks like that’s not really an option??
