I used to believe in "let's automate to free people up for more rewarding, higher-value jobs" — but that can't possibly be an infinitely true axiom... it has to end at some point. What if we've simply reached the end of the line? Then what? And are we there?

Anecdotally, my FB feed in the last weel or two has ramped up pushing me seperatist content. Suspiciously so.

Guess what! Alberta is intervening in a Quebec Supreme Court case about electoral boundaries.

“The Attorney General of Alberta intervenes in this appeal in support of the ability of provincial legislatures to craft legislation that ensures the effective representation of their
citizens”

"We want to read nothing about how you plan to comply with any federal regulations" is the subtext I'd read out of that.

I am pretty sure the Facebook employees have stopped using Facebook themselves.
That place is such a dumpster fire now.

I did not know it had a name until just now: "dummymanders"

Gerrymandering is bad.
But it is also brittle. In a wave election, if the gerrymandering fails, it fails catastrophically.

If the UCP goes forward with this plan to gerrymander Alberta's electoral boundaries, Albertans of all partisan persuasions will be called upon to push back. And hard.

Alberta to scrap new electoral map, launch expedited redraw with more MLAs A government motion calls for a redrawn map from the one presented three weeks ago; the number of MLAs would rise to 91.

The UCP govt is rejecting the electoral map proposed 3 weeks ago.

A govt motion that could come as soon as this morning outlines the new process which will be overseen by a UCP-led committee, will not allow for public input, and grow the number of MLAs from 87 to 91

The problem is, if you're already a parent who let's your kid spend 5 hours a day on a screen, you'll probably just boot for your kid and no one will ever know.

I don't like this idea, but cryptologically I think it could be pulled off with certified "vouchers" I.e. companies that already have your ID (cell phone company) without the SM company ever needing any identifying info. They only need to know you were vouched for. Not unlike how we already use SSO

Internal party politics have become so anti-democratic (always were?), and the "best" and most sought-after political operatives are the ones most adept at playing intra-party anti-democratic tricks, who then get elevated (see Kenney et al). Doesn't seem to bode well for democracy generally.

Pollievre received 87.4% approval from Conservative delegates in his leadership review just 2.5 months ago.

I wonder what set of conditions leads to such a disconnect between internal party politics and the party's national politics. (This is partially a rhetorical question)

Do they just sit around in the evenings and brainstorm both lame and offensive quips to add to their QP repertoire over scotch and cigars? Like where do these come from? Or are they just recycled from their grade 6 schoolyard bully era they never grew out of?

If it were to be challenged in JR, would it be against the commission as an admin law matter? Who would have standing? As a public interest standing?

Or after passing of the boundaries as legislation, challenging the legislation in constitutional law?

Or both? Is my distinction artifical?
