I lost my father in the war. After two years of delay, I finally achieved a high score to study medicine, his dream for me. But I’m lost, with no support. My mother and younger siblings need help. I can’t do this alone.

everyone with real American manliness and a basic knowledge of military history knows that serious war efforts have never been derailed by such trifling matters as "communicable diseases"
I'm not sure my French is good enough to understand the full subtleties of Libé's review of the Michael Jackson biopic
Of course, Starmer will try to evade resigning on the basis that he won’t admit to losing and he’s convinced that him staying is “in the national interest”. His obstinacy will get him to May 8
Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.
There’s a clear divide between the parties offering policies for LGBT people (Scottish Greens, Lib Dems, SNP) and parties attacking LGBT people to win votes (Reform, Tories, Labour)
really is stunning how Labour are just on team bad guy now
As the crowdfunder for the first radical bookshop icon Newcastle for 40 years gets closer to the end I’m making the bold move of calling on all the academics I sort of vaguely know and also those I don’t to share the link for our crowdfunder: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/booksfromb...
Genuinely excellent apology from The National for running a transphobic advert.
I've never really been into The Strokes - their music didn't carry much weight for me - but this is powerful stuff, all credit to them.

Which Scottish election candidates back a full ban on conversion practices? I'm seeing a clear theme emerging here...
Isaac's deconstruction of the 'privilege' framework here is desperately vital because it's no longer used as a tool to name and identify vectors of oppression, but rather a competitive bludgeon through which we assert why others don't have it as bad as we do.
It has become anti-solidarity.
In light of the BBC claiming that asylum seekers are falsely claiming to be gay in order to gain asylum, here is an article about the difficulties and humiliations LGBT asylum seekers have experienced trying to prove their identities.

everyone: I am incensed! I can scarcely believe it! how completely uncharacteristic of our nations finest institution! how could the BBC use my license fee to do such terrible reporting harming queer people and immigrants!???

Image shows a judge's gavel. Text reads: One year on: actions you can take The Supreme Court’s For Women Scotland judgement had a devastating impact on the lives of trans people in the UK. Swipe to see what you can do
Today marks one year since the Supreme Court’s For Women Scotland judgement. The Supreme Court told us its ruling would not remove rights from trans people, but it has caused confusion, discrimination and its decision is bleeding across into other legislation with devastating effects.
In other news...
All we know for sure is that:
- The Minister sent the code back to the EHRC asking for changes to be made
- The EHRC has now returned the newly updated code to the UK Government
- The Code won’t be laid in the UK Parliament until the middle of May at the earliest.

A graphic with a purple gradient that says in white text "We don’t yet know what the updated Code says. The version that the EHRC consulted on last summer would have made trans people’s lives across Britain very much worse. It focused only on how to exclude and segregate us from services. In our view, it would have led to frequent and widespread breaches of our human rights." The Scottish Trans logo is at the bottom.

We deserve to live free from discrimination, harassment and abuse, and to have our human rights protected." The Scottish Trans logo is at the bottom.

Today, the UK Minister for Equalities and the EHRC have both released updates on the EHRC’s Code of Practice for services. The EHRC was updating the Code following last year’s UK Supreme Court ruling on the meaning of “sex” in the Equality Act 2010.

LGBT+ Labour has done the same nationally across the UK. It’s shut everything down, cancelled elections, no longer responds to emails from members
This page confirms that LGBT+ Labour Scotland remains an official affiliate of Scottish Labour. But its website has been shut down, it appears to have no currently serving officers, and it hasn't made any public statements for nearly three years. So that's shit.
