I wrote this to help people understand that universal basic income is not meant to permanently replace all jobs. It's meant to be a floor below which no one can fall, and a dividend that universally distributes a share of our economy. It's meant to provide the power to say no and freedom to choose.

Unconditional basic income works. We have the studies. We have the data. What we don't have yet is the will. I think we can build it. I know we have to try. I know we have to fight for it. It's certainly not going to be handed to us by those who will definitely pay more in taxes as part of the deal.
Agreed. A very important take indeed:
"The pilot participants who received assistance were given $1k in the first month and then $600 for the following 11 months. The results showed recidivism fell, and self-sufficiency and mental health improved, all resulting in net savings for taxpayers."

Nice article here that makes sure to include the Dauphin pilot results of 44% less crime (violent) and 8.5% fewer hospitalizations, and the Austin pilot results of reduced homelessness and the savings that such a drop likely provided via homelessness PREVENTION.
It's time. Basic income NOW.
The only possible way of making sure EVERYONE benefits from AI is UNIVERSAL basic income as a productivity dividend. And the entire point of AI is to reduce the need for human labor, not to make work more interesting. The purpose of my dishwasher is not to make doing the dishes more interesting.
If you support universal basic income and think it's important, then please do your part to help make it happen. Don't expect it to just happen. It's always been a good idea, but it redistributes power, and those with power don't want that. You can help by following me and boosting what I boost.
Does not help unpaid care workers.
Does not help those with disabilities.
Does not help those above the minimum wage.
Meanwhile, a basic income guarantee helps all of these people and has so many more positive impacts because a job can always be lost, no matter what the wage is.
Tax wealth and distribute universal basic income as a dividend share of productivity growth. That's the new and rising floor to protect everyone from the worst and make sure everyone benefits. Also do universal healthcare to fully decouple survival from jobs. And 4-day 32hr weeks as a time dividend.
I don't like talking about the cost of universal basic income, not because it's some high number, but because it assumes not doing it is free. We spend $1.5 TRILLION a year on the costs of child poverty alone. We cut child poverty by 40% for a cost of $100B in 2021. That would have been a $500B GAIN
UBI is a freedom dividend making everyone a shareholder in our economy

Just do universal basic income. No need to beat around the bush.
Ian Austin, an Army veteran, was arrested for protesting ICE in Minneapolis. But he’s continued protesting. Senior reporter @julialurie.bsky.social spoke to him.
“When they say, ‘Why would you be out here?’ How the fuck could I not be out here?” he says. “My nation is under attack."
Yes, we are all stronger when we take care of each other. So just implement a basic income floor.

This is where authoritarianism comes from. It's difference-ism born from the interplay of a genetic predisposition (that a third of people have) for a preference for oneness and sameness, and the perception of the amount of oneness and sameness. They perceive multiplicity and diversity as a threat.
There's a UBI post on FB being reposted by thousands of accounts that's pro-UBI disinfo. No, Sweden didn't do a big UBI pilot where 5,000 Swedes got $1800/mo in UBI for 3 years. That never happened. The "results" appear to be AI-generated. UBI works. It doesn't need false data. See my pinned thread.
TAX WEALTH. DISTRIBUTE UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME.

If you're going around saying the answer to hunger and homelessness is to make sure everyone has free AI compute, there's a really good chance you vacation on private islands and have never gone through the process of applying for welfare of any kind.
The answer is universal basic income + housing.
If we create a basic income floor below which no one can fall, and set it high enough and alongside other universal needs like healthcare and education, then everyone will be more capable of becoming the best versions of themselves, which in turn means a society that is the best version of itself.
