I guess the joke would be funny 🤣 But I simply meant Bluvstein+Huang+Preskill in a startup sounds like a very strong starting team - they all have stellar track record of delivering high impact science. Of course running a startup will need more - but it is a strong starting point.

You know you worked too much in QEC when you misread Senate in a news article for Steane.

Registration is now open for QEC26, to be held this June in sunny Santa Barbara, CA! See the registration page at qec-conference.org for a link.

Also, the deadline for submissions is next Friday. Make sure to get those in and spread the word to friends and collaborators!

Only in theories with periodic electric fields will work with stabilizer GLQEC. Other trade-offs popped up as we simulated the Rajput-Roggero-Wiebe QEC scheme, including a higher mixing speed in the logical channel compared to using a regular old application-agnostic QEC scheme. Our new paper...

Have you ever wondered about the dimensionality of the massive Schwinger model with a two-dimensional, non-periodic electric field? Well, we counted it and proved that it follows the bisection of the Lucas numbers (oeis.org/A005248). This leads to incompatibility with Gauss's law stabilizer QEC.

Quantum Computer (SQuInT 2025) | Mark Wilde Quantum Computer (SQuInT 2025) by Mark Wilde, Rock music from Ithaca, NY on ReverbNation

After #SQuInT2025 concluded, @balintpato.bsky.social , Cole Maurer, & I opted for a post-conference discussion on quantum computing, its capabilities, public perception of it, and various geopolitical issues that have arisen recently. Recording available here:

Weight enumerators? Yep.
PlanqTN + Cotengra = compute them on any QL layout.
⚡ Way faster than brute force (though still #P-hard) for most interesting cases.

Tensor networks meet actual usability.

RETRACTED ARTICLE: Quantized Majorana conductance - Nature In a step towards topological quantum computation, a quantized Majorana conductance has been demonstrated for a semiconducting nanowire coupled to a superconductor.

This is a mega-thread of all Microsoft problems related to topological qubits.

NOTE: I skip the numerous news reports and press releases, this thread is for serious _scientific_ and procedural materials

These notes are great for a somewhat beginner level too - they helped me get intuition even before I started my PhD.

Intuition about Knill-Laflamme QEC conditions The Knill Laflamme QEC conditions are stated this way: We consider a code space $C$ and its associated projector $P_C$. We consider a noise acting on our system: $E(\rho)=\sum_a E_a \rho E_a^{\da...

In case you were ever confused by the Knill-Laflamme conditions for QEC codes - I drew a picture of it on the QC StackExchange quantumcomputing.stackexchange.com/a/40802/4986... #quantum

A local automaton for the 2D toric code We construct a local decoder for the 2D toric code using ideas from the hierarchical classical cellular automata of Tsirelson and Gács. Our decoder is a circuit of strictly local quantum operations pr...

scirate.com/arxiv/2412.1... looks very interesting - I always found cellular automaton decoders fascinating. I guess if these result all hold - this might provide a way forward towards an even more scalable locally decodable surface code? I wonder what the catch is? Any thoughts here?

When we've been there in a group
closed under the sum,
To represent we took the trace,
character has first begun.

Density matrices are fun
to observe with the trace!
Mean was lost, but now is found,

’Twas trace that taught my heart to fear,
and trace my fears relieved;
How precious did that trace appear
the hour I first believed!
