I loved it, every digression, the whole thing was total catnip…but then I’d just finished a 3 hour YouTube video on what bass Paul played on The White Album, so I’m probably not entirely impartial.
Good to see most of The DM’s Bluesky engagement is similarly non existent.
I’ve a lot to be thankful to Backlisted for, My Phantoms being one of them.
Pleased to say my subs copy was of Miles. If it had been The Sex Pistols I’d have probably done a Jason Holmes.
Was amazing, wasn’t it…
That Miles cover is fantastic.
I swore it was Robert Pollard guesting on that record and no one can convince me otherwise.
Agreed. My other half got very tired of me pointing out when they showed up on the soundtrack.
It’s an excellent documentary Mark - sent me back to some classic albums I know well and introduced me to many new names I’d not encountered before. A great watch!
Think this was my AotY.
Great stuff John - thanks for sharing these.
I remember how I was casting around speculatively for a book-related podcast that would be right up my street the week your first episode launched, and it remains one of the best bit of serendipity I’ve ever had. Happy Birthday to you all.
Saw Michael Head live this year and when he played a song from this album I was quite emotional.
Thank you for following that up Mark - great news!
Tortoise on stage absolutely killing it.
Saw the majestic Tortoise at The Barbican and now when I grow up I think I want to be a vibraphonist.
On my way to the evening performance. Can’t wait.
Will that also be Prime in the UK, do you know?
This was three full days of wall to wall highlights, incredible music and some very cool shit. I loved it.
Is there a delay in subscriber copies being sent out John?
Who is headlining on the Sunday?
I’m going to try that “what’s your star sign?” and see how I get on.
A crap picture of a band playing at a brilliant gig
Fortunate to have seen (Swami) John Reis three times at The Portland Arms (twice in Hot Snakes). Last night’s gig (and the band’s shirts) were fantastic. This rubbish picture is the best I could do.
That caveat at the end made me chuckle.
Had my copy of Kid A for years before I realised it had a second booklet hidden in it.
It was a welcome moment of calm (although I loved Jonny Greenwood’s score - it was epic).
Walking out at the end of The Master and impulsively wanting to go straight back in and see it again is a feeling I rarely have at the cinema. Can’t wait for this one.
Sixty mesmeric minutes in the company of Brìghde Chaimbeul at The Junction 2
Please pay a reviewer to sub for Mark when he’s on holiday.
