And this is why I love Docker. No local nodejs install devcontainers only

Sometimes I write code and my type checker fills it with red squiggles, and I get so used to seeing so many fucking squiggles, by the time I patch it all up and refactor, I think my type checker’s broken because no squiggles.
I would love to run my own PDS, with storage for container registry, media, etc. I just have little to no clue how that interfaces with apps, and what I can reasonably expect when signing in anywhere with my Atmosphere Account. I want to start building, but I lack the time to fumble around.
I haven’t been able to take the deep dive into atproto I’ve been wanting to, but I’ve been thinking about how all this works in the pockets of time I have, and for as much as I’ve tried to follow along here on Bluesky, I know very little.
Is there a visual mental model someone’s made of how using your own PDS works? In my brain, I’m thinking if I have a PDS and all the lexicons I write to are served from my PDS, then I’m not taking up hosting on other services, correct? Apps can just grab relevant data for their specific view?
Interesting. Good to know. Thanks for the insight. I’m still learning about the protocol and it appears I need to better understand labelers.
Have you tried @getskyscraper.com?
Of course we can’t use it. The globe must center Antartica as previously stipulated by another Atmosphere user.
Atmosphere Office Hours. Sign in with your Atmosphere Account to join the chat.
Yeah. This sticks nicely.
“… just has 24GB RAM” as if that isn’t at least triple what the average user has in their Lenovo Yoga.
That’s … A LOT of hexidecimal characters. This shit is HEAVY. Can I just use did:ssn instead?
It needs more syllables.
Look at that. “Many providers. One identity.” A single line. No pagedown. Let alone two.
We are so serious. Console Cowboys? Sign me the fuck up.
I learn so fucking much lurking in these comment sections …
Listen choom, you say it enough, it just becomes the vernacular. Natural. Easy. Preem, even.
“I’m on sphere.”
Nerd projects don’t get cool words because most nerds don’t want cool, they want functional. “The thing should be named what it does.” Yes? But also, boring! I think atproto peeps are killing it on this front. @semble.so? @tangled.org? @leaflet.pub? Not “links”, “git*”, or “blog—“. This is so cool.
You ever do an internet search for some acronym you don’t immediately recognize? This is a little like that but with the work done for you. It’s still simple, just not as simple as it can be. We can get to pure simplicity by being consistent.
This looks so nice.
Maybe for now add tooltips below the button that say “*bluesky account/handle” or some such thing until “Atmosphere Account” gains greater adoption? We gotta find ways to move forward on a the thing while still making it easier for people who are not terminally online, or eyeballs deep in atproto.
Hot dog is a taco.
You know? I thought I was being a really big fucking nerd making this comment in reference to Evangelion. I’m glad to see it’s sparked additional consideration with regard to wider ATproto adoption.
It's an account for Atmosphere apps.
It's not a "handle" for the whole "internet".
It's not a "Bluesky" account, a lot of us don't host our account there, and hopefully less will over time.
Atmosphere came from the community, we build as a community.
Don't overcomplicate it.
Atmosphere Account.
AT Account. Not to be confused with AT Field.
Basically it works with all Docker commands, just substituting “docker” with “container”. So, `container pull` works. Only thing not available yet is replacing Docker Compose, though for registry services, that doesn’t matter, correct? The push/pull commands should all be the same.
The vulnerabilities page will be a nice touch. Apple Container would be a nice-to-have as a preferred client:
github.com/apple/contai...
That’s so straightforward to tap right in to the API via the search bar. Pretty sweet!
I gotta hunker down one day and set up my own pds. I think a self-hosted pds with attached storage for knots (via @tangled.org) and containers (via @atcr.io) would be a pretty solid setup.
How fucking cool! Is this thing live? I think it’s wild there’s no search engine on @tangled.org.
