I’m watching Doctor Who again from the very beginning. No 55 “Terror of the Autons” Jan 71. I grew up in the village of Chalfont St Peter, where this was filmed. Explains a lot, I’m sure.
Superb story. The Master is brilliant, the Autons creepy, Jo’s a delight and oh! It’s lovely!

Oh man. You are to be applauded.
Yellow Dalek? That’s a tough one to walk away from. Blimey.
Hidden in plain sight
“Boss goes mad” subgenre :
Ice warriors, fury from the deep, Silurians, inferno, Green death, planet of evil, warriors of the deep -and more. I wonder, does Genesis of the Daleks count?
As with “Fury from the deep” presumably whatever it is that caused all this is still down there and further drilling could rerelease it?
Superb ending keeps the tension going right to the last. The fourth “The boss is having a nervous breakdown” story so far- there will be more.
I’m watching Doctor Who again from the very beginning. No 54 “Inferno” May-Jun ‘70.
After a brutal, bleak season, Inferno ends in *another* post-industrial wasteland while the people we love become fascists and the whole world burns to death.
Where is this btw?
Good man. I go up ours several times a week but it’s nowhere near as high as the one in Snorbs itself.
The hill or the tower itself?
Crumbs, it’s grim this season. Could do with a bit of carefree adventure after all this. I hope Inferno is a bit cheerier.
Corporal Benton reappears in episode 5- except he’s now a Sergeant. Good for him.
It’s “Saving Private Ryan” but with Terry Walsh as Tom Hanks.
A Unit trooper gets killed twice, I think. Fairly sure he gets killed again in The Android Invasion. Could be wrong.
I meant to say I had my sixth birthday while watching this in 1970. I am not currently six. Worth mentioning.
I’m watching Doctor Who again from the very beginning. No 53 “Ambassadors of Death” Mar-May ‘70. The “Get Carter,” or “Long Good Friday” of Who. Bleak, post industrial, grey England in winter. I watched this while the Artemis crew returned home, which was fun. I had my sixth birthday during this.
I’m watching Doctor Who again from the very beginning. No 52 “and the Silurians” Jan-Mar ‘70. I can remember, aged 5, being beside myself with grief at the Doctor’s disappointment with the Brigadier. I’d never seen such a bleak ending.
Superb kazoo- focused soundtrack, this one.
I’m watching Doctor Who again from the very beginning. No 51 “Spearhead from
Space” Jan ‘70. Oh my word! This is amazing! I was 5 at the time and this blew my young mind. Shop window dummies! Waxworks!
I spent the first episode missing Pat- and then forgot him entirely from episode 2 onwards. 10/10
(Hate to be that guy, but) Gemini 6 and Gemini 7, surely?
Sounds marvellous. We’re similarly tired out but are walking a bit of the annual Easter pilgrimage to the Cathedral today. Mercifully it’s a beautiful day, so very much looking forward to it.
I reckon Christmas starts March 25th when the Angel turns up at Mary’s house. In those terms you’ve lasted well.
…what?
Just 4 weeks exactly until our domestic season begins! We hope.
Just watched the two episodes that have been newly returned. So flipping good! Oh, what a delight. Great stuff.
Peter purves in Doctor Who
Just got time for one before setting up Messy Church (I say “Messy church” I’ve already been unblocking toilets in the church hall this morning). So exciting!
It’s just wonderful isn’t it?
As a child, I remember going out into the garden at night, and standing in the dark and looking up at the moon and knowing there were people standing on it. I so hope you get to have that too, Paul.
Looks lovely.
Just got in from ours.
Matthew 13 makes bread out of yeast, but use it with wine then you’ll still need a priest.
