Really enjoyed this novel! It's about food and travel in Japan-occupied Taiwan. It also asks serious questions about the subtle power dynamics in colonial society.
The English translation of "Taiwan Travelogue" won the National Book Award in 2024. Highly recommend it! π
No idea π the students were hard to read.
For my "Intro to literature" class, I taught Marge Piercy's "Barbie Doll" and Billie Eilish's "What Was I Made For?" I wanted them to think about the changing significance of Barbie. Turned out that only half of them saw the movie π±
