The whole entertainment/politics dichotomy is so silly in part because politics ARE entertaining. I have a polisci degree and I used to be a political columnist so maybe I'm weird, but I find power dynamics interesting. I don't read Les Mis or The Constant Gardener and go "ugh, not politics again."

Now that the "I don't want politics in my science fiction & fantasy" statement/opinion/complaint has come up (yet again)
I'm reminded that in 2013 I wrote an essay (in defense of world building) titled "The Status Quo Does Not Need Worldbuilding"

WFM Episode 177: It's a musical episode!

No, we're not singing; you're spared. But the fabulous Mia Tsai (@itsamia.bsky.social) joined us to talk about integrating music into the worlds you create -- and how to go beyond just plopping a bunch of lyrics on the page.

God, I would love a speculative biology picture book for trek in the spirit of all of those Star Wars bestiaries.

Just 100 pages, each a two-page spread on the wildlife of 50 major planets.

Friends, if you're one of those, "I don't want a start a series that's incomplete", Phase One of the Maradaine Saga is complete with TWELVE NOVELS, and even if you're a voracious fantasy reader, that'll keep you busy for at least two weeks.

It's B&N preorder sale o'clock!

Do consider BODIES OF MAGIC: perfect if you enjoy queer mess, murder mysteries, trauma flashbacks to finals week, or The Pitt's brand of competent, caring assholes having a horrible time.

The Unbroken is 5 Years Old! the unbroken goes to kindergarten! and a birthday giveaway!

Yesterday, The Unbroken turned 5! So I shared a few (okay, 5) thoughts I had. There’s also a giveaway in there. ;)

So often, when people say publishing a book changed their life, it feels like it has to be a “six figure deal” or hit lists or win awards. The Unbroken did none of that.
