We will never forget the first responders in New York and Washington who risked their lives and ran toward danger. We will never forget the heroes of Flight 93 who stood up to hijackers. 24 years later, we still mourn those lost and find strength in all who help others.

There are moments that require absolute moral clarity and principled application of the rule of law. This is that moment, I too dissent.

The Supreme Court’s decision to limit the ability of judges to stop unconstitutional orders will cause irreparable harm.

Today HJR5 passed the House unanimously. This resolution recognizes the life of Fred T. Korematsu, who selflessly fought against the injustice of Executive Order 9066, which authorized the internment of people of Japanese descent in the United States.

Our state faces real challenges, stemming in part from unprecedented uncertainty at the federal level. As we navigate those challenges, I will continue to fight for the values and the rights that we as Illinoisans share - no matter what happens in Washington. #twill
