In many ways, it’s not even the original use of AI that shocks me - it’s that these ‘authors’ (in the loosest possible sense) don’t even bother to check what the AI has produced, despite how much we know about hallucinations. That’s a whole new level of pathological laziness. 📚

Looking at a utterly delusional librarian substack post and thinking whether I want to respond. There's a lot I agree with the piece e.g. in terms of the trust users have with the library and how often we see things other institution units may not notice. But equally there's this delusional view (1)

#medlibs was the title of APA PsycInfo at one point in time stylized differently to be partially all caps? So many automatic or errant mentions of PsycINFO (and let’s not talk about PsychINFO). Perhaps it’s just a MEDLINE effect we can blame on NLM 🙂

Author disclosure of AI use is associated with "manuscripts that were rejected (OR, 1.29; 95% CI, 1.05-1.62) or withdrawn prior to review (OR, 8.48; 95% CI, 5.30-13.22) vs accepted or asked to revise." but let's not jump to conclusions too quickly...(1) jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

NIH Record Ceases Publication This will be the final issue of the NIH Record.

A sad day at NIH...

The NIH Record was a great way for NIH folks to find out what was going on across NIH.

Many important stories published there over the years.

How we evaluated Elicit Reports - Elicit Elicit Reports provide automated research overviews with higher quality and efficiency than other deep research tools.

I'm a little dubious about the LLM ranking the results, because while they may have agreed with each other, a group of human experts arrived at different results: elicit.com/blog/elicit-...
A follow up to this completed in December (not published afaik) showed they are much improved, but...

"If a single click can irrevocably delete years of work, ChatGPT cannot, in my opinion and on the basis of my experience, be considered completely safe for professional use."

wish I were going to PLA -Hot takes -
1. Professional librarians will no longer exist
2. The real threat isn’t book banners—it’s libraries' self-censoring
3. Trauma-informed isn’t free—pay library workers for the care they provide
4. Want a strong future? Make books the star of your library again
