He can change sides from one moment to another or surprisingly decide to join an event. Most of the time, it's nothing personal. Since he understands destiny better than us, most of the time his actions turn out to be part of something bigger.

This also means that you can't simply ask him for help or convince him to do something. Even since he is quite powerful, he might also be useless to you... or, much more concerning, he might be your enemy without a reason you could understand.

It's neither love nor hate that leads his actions, but a strange theory of the course of things. He follows his rules of what destiny wants to happen.

Callibas isn't the villain many elves see in him, but he doesn't hesitate to do bad things, fully aware of that. His idea of how the world works isn't as simple as black and white; he doesn't try to fulfill role models.

“Life cannot exclude death, just as good cannot exclude evil.”

This is Callibas, an elf who got banished. He vanished a long time ago, and there are fairy tales and stories about him which make him sound like he might be something monstrous.

But the most important question about this piece is: What are you dreaming about, and why are dreams sometimes like an endless swarm of unseen moths, burning in candlelight?

I painted this one back in 2023 when I had just started oil painting. I remember how much I struggled with it. I didn’t really have experience with mediums, and one of them made a big mess all over the canvas. You can see it when looking closer at the texture in some areas.
