I actually really miss this. Makes me nostalgic for a time when computing was fun and still relatively geeky.

I’ve reset the dictionary and tried all sorts. Last week, I disabled apple intelligence. Don't ask me why, but my typing is fast & accurate again. Result!

Like a lot of people, I've been having major issues with typing in iOS 26. The last update was meant to address some of it, but I still feel like I’m forever hitting backspace and retyping over & over.

The problem is, I feel at a loose end because I’ve let a lot of my hobbies and interests fade and I now have lots of free time. Does anyone else have this issue or feel this way? Its almost a sense of being frozen when i don’t have work as a distraction. I also feel disconnected.

I’m in a weird position. I use Openvibe on my iPhone and follow very few accounts. I was a heavy twitter user for years. And a massive instagram user. Over the last 12-18 months I’ve increasingly took months away from them.

..fractured and AI is destroying the indie web and the everyday people setting up their own websites and servers. It has become so commercial and the collaborative promise of that early internet is gone. I honestly think we peaked in 2006 in that pre smartphone/socials era.

As someone who has been connected to some form of internet via a modem right back to 1994 with BBS when I was a kid, I feel like the current era is past peak internet. Social media is making everything a bit shitty, work is now called content and marketed furiously, community is..

Ok. Cloudflare switched off for 24 hours on my server. Only took the bastards that long to see our open server, and brute force the hell out of it. They didn’t get in, it’s secure, but it was enough to max out resources and effectively DDOS the server for 2 hours. Re-enabled CF.

…starting to drop. Impressions on Google declined, even though we only manage challenged certain ASN from bad bots. I’ve disabled it in the last 24 hours. Our rankings are already returning, but also, our server load has gone down massively without Cloudflare! And page load is 120ms quicker.

So, something weird happened. I added Cloudflare to our business site in December. A really simple setup, most things disabled including bot fight and browser integrity check. Simple WAF rules for full bypass of all blocks for verified bots and our APIs. Traffic slowly declined and rankings….

I’ve started taking Mondays or Fridays off by consolidating my working week. Feels like such a perk. Popped into the village for coffee and cake. We even got parked right outside. #vegan#coffee#cornwall

Ok. I really wasn’t comfortable blanking banning countries and ASN via cloudflare. I firmly believe the internet should be open. Rather than disable cloudflare, I’ve turned off everything except caching and tiered cache, and I’ll let hardenedphp/modsecurity manage the bad guys. Time to test.

Looking for UK based #retrogaming and #retrocomputing accounts on mastodon and bluesky to follow. I’m sorely missing fun accounts who share retro tech and projects. If you fit the bill, let me know.

So I’ve gone as far as to block all of the major social media sites at the network level at home, and I’ve sent a screentime passcode blocking those sites and apps on my phone, but only my wife knows the passcode. Time to focus up, so the deep work and make some major life changes.

I get totally overwhelmed with social media, especially any platforms with an infinite scroll/algorithmic feed. To the point where I have deleted all of the apps and left myself with my mastodon account and cross posting to bluesky and threads. I feel massive burnout from content. Actual fatigue.

Tickets secured for AFI in August. I've seen them so many times, but only when I was younger. The last time I saw them was 20 years ago! Can't wait to come home to my home city of Manchester to do it all over again.

I'm really curious, how many people still have social media apps on their phone? I stick to using them in my desktop browser only, along with a few extensions and tampermonkey scripts to remove the endless scroll and algorithmic content. I have croissant on my iPhone so I can post from my phone.

I find having social media of any kind on my phone to be a total distraction. My brain is a little spicy and easily gets obsessive or locked onto behaviours. But I also like to share. So I've reinstalled croissant so I can cross post to threads/mastodon/bluesky from my phone without timelines.

…a managed challenge. I hate doing this as the internet should be open & free, but most of these crawlers and botnets are using standard useragents and residential proxies, so blocking is just a cat a mouse game that takes up hours of my day. It’s the Wild West out there now, full of horrible folks

I had to enable cloudflare across all of my websites. I have an enterprise server with one business and 4 Wordpress blog sites. The sheer amount of botnets, ai crawlers and scrapers became obscene. I have a rule set to allow the UK and verified bots free access, all external countries have…

I ventured onto X to try asking a question about the MacBook neo. It’s been a long time since I logged in. My post got 11 impressions and no replies. I’ve tried on mastodon and bsky and still no replies. Come on, this is the ultimate test.

I’m seriously tempted by the MacBook Neo after playing with one in store. Serious question, how does it cope with light photoshop work? Nothing major, relatively small designs under 1024x1024 with a maximum of 5 layers? Thinking of replacing my wife’s ageing 2012 pro with one. Can anyone recommend?

Todays energy. Chill day in the city.

I’ve condensed my working week into 4 days (the joy of being self employed) so I now spend my Fridays relaxing and watching a couple of @visitthecave.bsky.social YouTube videos. I enjoy the old unboxing & donation videos so much. Not a bad way to start a 3 day weekend.
