I'm surprised and vexed that neither the AP nor the NYT obit mention what I think is Martin Cruz Smith's best suspense novel, along with Gorky Park: ROSE, set in an English coal town in 1872. It was a bestseller, and I recommend it. #RIP

The book is “Rose”. Mr. Smith was a huge fan of George Orwell’s The Road to Wigan Pier.

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

Czech Dam Project Was Stalled by Bureaucracy. Beavers Built Their Own. The dam project, drafted in 2018 and based on a former military training site south of Prague, had been delayed by land negotiations. Local beavers built several dams, saving the government more than ...

For years, officials in the Czech Republic had pushed a dam project to protect a river south of Prague, and the critically endangered species living in it. But the project stalled.

In the meantime, the beavers of Prague simply built dams themselves, saving the government some 1.2 million euros.

What an incredibly beautiful book. I finished it, and immediately started it again. @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com any chance the play will make it to Broadway?

I know it’s uncouth to say out so but Alabama voters just have to do better. You got rid of Doug Jones for Sen. Football and the whole country unsurprisingly is paying the price.
