New episode tomorrow! Matt Huber of the @solargarlicband.bsky.social reminds us of why 1998 was arguably the BEST year of 1.0 as we dive deep into 8/1/98 at Alpine Valley! Available tomorrow wherever you find podcasts!
Really fun to go on "Attendance Bias" to talk about one of the best shows I ever saw in person - 8/1/98. Listen up to hear how the Tweezer became my 'platonic ideal' of what I wanted a Phish jam to sound like for years after.
And “Life Saving Gun” & “Beneath the Sea of Stars” came oh so close to adding two more.
Talked about the years with most 20+ min jams on the episode below (spoiler 1997, 2025)
I think 2026 will beat the 41 in 97 and the 40 in 2025. 5 already in Mexico this year.

@hfpod.bsky.social I really need to hear Brian's take on this Ruby Waves jam.
Wait a minute. I’ve been going back and seeing that 1 “check it out” is basically the norm despite 2 on Junta! Although I did find one version (4/21/90) w/ 3!!!
Man, I really love the song "Spock's Brain."
I'm going to miss listening to y'all SO much, but it also did seem like a TON of work. So very understandable. Good luck in all your grad school endeavors!
Check it out count : 1
Just want to praise this post lol. I def noticed the absence & was wondering if I spaced out for the first one.
@hfpod.bsky.social If I can gather the strength, I'd like to read a shorter version of this on a voice mail. I know some of your listeners knew Jeff.
My Phish fandom was forged with my love for my brother, who I lost this past week at the age of 44. I wrote a little something about that.

Agreed. Fall 1997 is the best tour of all time too. 😀
Numbers don’t lie.
We’re living in an unprecedented era of massive jams in the @phish.com universe. 🙌🏻
Yeah I agree w you. But I blame the immediate fan backlash to the song in 2016 (why I wrote this then). I trace it to the late 90s—when SOTG came out they played Guyute more & fans just wanted “the jamz.” I wish the fanbase was more welcoming of new compositional material. medium.com/the-phish-fr...
Absolutely incredible work on my hypothesis about lower avg show gap = better show. Doesn’t totally pan out bc of outliers but does sort of apply to the last five shows of tour.
Thank you @past-and-future.bsky.social 🤓

Amazing thanks!
Also: I won't subject y'all to ANOTHER Petrichor voicemail, but let me say 'orchestral' songs do def have their place at a (Phish) rock show. Divided Sky? Guyute? Reba/Fluff have 'fugues' ala Bach. This is Phish! (prog tradition!) You can not LIKE Petrichor (OK!), but not say it doesn't belong.
No problem love the show. And thanks to @past-and-future.bsky.social for making my sad tables come to life with colors and pictures!

I love our nerdy listeners. This is incredible. Thank you @solargarlicband.bsky.social

OK, I did something really nerdy with Brian's numbers of 20 and 25 minute jams. Please let him know! 😅 (I also did this *very quickly* because I'm currently slammed, so there might be mistakes).

I want to stick up for Drift While You're Sleeping. Sure, the Franti section is cringe, but we must encourage Trey to continue to write difficult composed music (my thoughts on Petrichor: medium.com/the-phish-fr...).
I love the Drift composed parts!
PS: Megan nailed it: Twist was the highlight!
