Today, Purdue's University Senate passed a vote of no confidence in the Provost. The @aauppurdue.bsky.social played a big part in making it happen.

The thing about Vancouver wanting a world class art gallery is we already have one.
The Museum of Anthropology combines two of the greatest visual contributions this land has shared with the world — West Coast Modernism and Northwest Coast Art — into a singular expression of this region.
Colleague who has been with my dept for 40 years is retiring today. He's currently in the middle of a 30 minute speech about how much he hates his retirement party, thinks it shouldn't have happened, and resents all for being here. Absolute legend
This, but also the fact that too many people are taking seriously the substack posts of a belligerent child
Last day to apply for this fully funded PhD in #philosophy at @ucddublin.bsky.social…

“They tried to weaken higher education, but instead they built a movement to fight for the future...
They can attack our institutions, but they cannot stop our movement….We will not stop until we have the higher education system and the democracy we all deserve.”

You're also a great friend (Assistant Professor Tier).

This works for philosophy as well.

We are offering two 4-year PhD positions in our new SNF project "The Evolutionary Roots of Altercentrism"
out of sheer curiosity i tried a root beer flavored "protein soda" and i can say with full confidence that the protein mania has gone Too Far. we must put an end to this. this is completely untenable.
Cal State Channel Islands philosophy lecturer Jonathan Caravello has just been ACQUITTED of assaulting ICE/CBP last summer while protesting a brutal Ventura County cannabis farm raid! His defense argued he threw a tear gas canister away to protect protesters. The jury acquitted him in two hours.
I'm so happy our paper on the ethics of decoding animal signals using AI is out! First conceived for a talk at Princeton's Center for Human Values conf AI and Animals in 2023 (talk 🔗 www.tinyurl.com/4vrdyeem) we argue against decoding without first having a robust ethical commitment to listening.
Why do we think people get so excited about consciousness, but not representation? I know why some *philosophers* find the former more interesting. But there are endless podcasts, quirky op eds, etc, about consciousness, and laypeople eat it up. Not so much for representation. Why?
Will be norming it up at NYU for the New York Philosophy of Language Workshop tomorrow (@dryan149.bsky.social will be norming along in spirit)

Happy Easter, everyone!
Purdue's one of the friendliest and most supportive places to do philosophy and I'm so grateful to have had some time here to learn from this incredibly diverse group of excellent researchers (especially Sarah & Dan ☺️). It's such a privilege to be a small part of what they're building here <3
The CAIC Launch event was a wonderful success! We are grateful to our wonderful speakers and the many guests who spent time with us over the last two days!
Read about the conference in this lovely write up from the Purdue Exponent: tinyurl.com/5cxysw97
This explains a lot...
I wouldn't argue for any universal requirements for all BAs in philosophy (also, good luck with that), but I think it's good for individual programs to have major requirements. Otherwise you're basically handing out degrees in Calvinball
99% of the time, saying that feature F explains why humans are unique or special is just rhetorical window dressing for something like "F is a thing humans do and I think that's neat."
