It blows my mind all these were released in one year. That’s bonkers.

God, what a ridiculously strong list. An absolute avalanche of riches.
This is a great thread.
These are beautiful! I’ve just ordered a copy.
This is an amazing game. Really looking forward to running it – I think I’m going make it a regular Halloween one-shot game.
He’s magnificent! So much character. I love his sash of torcs, and his little bell. Also his ‘orrible toes.
Co-signed.
It’ll never catch on, Thomas!
Humans!? In the same place!?!?! In this economy!?!?!?
The new issue is FANTASTIC. So much great stuff in there. I can’t believe how much effort the zine article alone must have taken!
a big box of currently unsold copies of Wyrd Science issue 8
the contents page from the new issue with features on Dolmenwood, Blades in the Dark, Doomsong, Bunnies & Burrows, The Old King's Crown, Alarums & Excursions, RPG Zines, Trench Crusade, fantasy metal, folklore, fairy tales, fungi and lots lots more.
Anyway, a massive thank you to everyone who's bought a copy of the new issue over the past week or so & all those who've been posting pics today
Now if we can shift about 700 more over the next week that would be a really very cool thing & maybe give me a day or 2 off (it wont)

A photo of Wyrd Science’s interview of Lee Gold
A double page spread of Wyrd Science’s lengthy article on the history of TTRPG zines, which has been put together to look like an old 80s zine complete with cut-and-pasted images and titles, and monospaced typed font.

The cover of issue 8 of Wyrd Science, slowing a psychedelic skull sprouting with neon mushrooms.
Wyrd Science is *so* great. The new issue has a fantastic interview with Lee Gold, editor for the entirety of Alarums & Excursions‘ incredible 50-year run, and a *gorgeous* history of RPG zines… done in the style of a hand-cut, monospaced physical zine!

Jesus Christ
this is the way, but also if you're lucky you'll have an editor afterwards who can sit you down and ask "okay so what did you mean to say?"
NO THOUGHT! ONLY ENDLESS WORDS!
Most muddy or rambling writing has the same root cause: the writer hasn't thought enough about what they intended with that sentence or paragraph. Once you have – once it's clear in your mind – you can write with clarity, with confidence, and with style.
Bonus: You'll also know when to stop.

The most all-purpose bit of writing advice I know is "First, think about what you want to say. Then, say that."
That sounds obvious, but it's not always how we approach writing, especially when we're in a flow state, or a hurry.
To elaborate...

Here's a taste of what to expect in Mandrake!
Elite Beat Agents is just the Best Game. Played it obsessively until I got S-rank on every mission except I think the last.
I absolutely, fundamentally, profoundly cannot dance, but Elite Beat Agents let me understand a flicker of what people get out of it. Pure magic.

It starts! @londongamesfest.bsky.social's Steam showcase is up, come and have a browse.
This dude needs to play more Shenmue.
oh no Hannah I made them gay
Yes! And I *like* seeing characters take on caregiving roles, and stories that play with gender norms. (and was raised by a nurturing single dad)
But the stories we‘re talking about are less concerned with that than with the pretty traditional “I will administer violence in the name of protection”.
AND YET.
Which is interesting, isn’t it, because the fact they have a daughter suggests that they know at least one (1) other woman.
So why can't people grow things in Mandrake, and what happens when they do?
Let's talk about Curses and Consequences.
YES.
Holy shit, Hungary.
Those are *magnificent* bookshelves!
Oo – I need to pick up Cold Day in Hell
This time next week we'll be at New Game Plus, sharing Mandrake for the first time!
