“This proposition [held by the court]–that allegations of sexual abuse involving clergy are matters of public import–is also why the [SBC] has been so unconscionably remiss in refusing to develop a system for record-keeping and information-sharing on clergy sex abuse allegations.”
Yep.
I’m pretty sure we’re up to a knowing mens rea at this point. 🤷🏻♀️

This one is so good.
It looks like a Poe poem out on our land
I spent the day in DC working with the Victim Advisory Group of the US Sentencing Commission. It’s so rewarding to be a part of a team working for victims across the country, and to be in a room where expertise and experience is valued and respected.
I’m also thankful to be in my own bed tonight. 😴
About a month into the COVID lockdowns, Natalie Grant recorded this in her living room with her husband. In case you need some beauty today. I know I did. ❤️

People in the pews have no idea what the entities do w/their money bc the system is designed that way. Nor do they know that the entities are entirely unaccountable to them. If a Msgr makes a motion to require an entity to do XYZ, it’s ruled out of order, bc they can only make “requests” of entities
Thank you for doing this. It will definitely be my commute listen in the morning. 🙏🏻❤️
Grateful to have this conversation with @drmoore.bsky.social on the significance and impact of church hurt and what to do when a church hurts people or when you've been hurt by the church. www.youtube.com/watch?v=c36D...
When I was listening to Butler’s Parable of the Talents, written in 1995, and a Christian nationalist politician character had the slogan “make America great again,” I shut it off in shock.

Yes I’ll be in the office Thursday! Just text me!
That’s close to both the Ryman and TPAC but I don’t see any events that night.

I have a feeling you’ve read those, though. 🙂
Most recent fiction (that I’d recommend) was The Women by Kristin Hannah
“The point became, ‘well, there's real damage that could be done to the kingdom if this person is held to account…’ But what we have to say is, ‘not holding them to account is causing the damage... The damage is being inflicted by the conduct, not by the revelation.’”

“When you began to get evidence of not just individuals who transgressed, but institutions that facilitated it & enabled it, you have to ask, how many bad apples … before you get questions about the orchard?”

I have said it often — everyone is against abuse until it implicates someone they know and love.
Then, too often, it’s defend, excuse, minimize, justify.
“Very few people will sacrifice anything they truly value to correct an injustice that doesn’t involve them immediately and directly.”
I didn’t mention @drmoore.bsky.social’s Losing Our Religion only because I’m 100% sure you’ve already read it.
