I agree. Pretty massive hit to his FPL value presumably, right? I feel like many don’t realize this. Becomes maybe more of a Douglas Luiz in theory. All set pieces and some occasional crashing the box.

But we shouldn’t be expecting his former returns at all I wouldn’t think.

@fplfrasier.bsky.social my top Utd/FPL reference point... any thoughts to the above? I knew a few players were more likely to play as one of the 10's than Bruno but I hadn't yet considered Mainoo on that list.

Amorim: "Mainoo was struggling a lot defending as a midfielder... now more as a 10 you can feel he was so free playing the ball near the box..."

Bruno's #fpl value dropping as we speak?

I think yet another indication Bruno will play as a CM not AM. Yes, roaming, but generally further from goal.

Cheers. So, either a new manager (lets just call him Big Sam) will automatically be priced the same as the outgoing (lets just call him Ange)?

or

The new manager is so special (lets just call him Jose) that FPL price the new manager higher, but they give old manager (Ange) owners a free upgrade?

Assman chip question for #FPL

What happens if you have a manager (👋 Ange) who gets fired during the span of your chip?

My FPL gurus… important considering we want low table good teams. Have not seen enough chat on this.

Why have to wildcard it now

Reposting the idea that City’s next win will come while playing Foden as a false 9 and giving Haaland a rest.

What they should do, for everyone’s fun, is play Haaland as a RW like Lukaku did at one point.

Actually, to that point, I think that if Pep played in a league with all elite teams who didn’t play low block against him, he would field 11 Fabregases.

Haha just my take.

Ah, great shout. Interesting!

Although Pep’s ideas have probably evolved so much since those days. Personally, I feel like Pep’s ideal is to have a team with a Fabregas at every position. But reality forces otherwise, and he has been intrigued by how to beat low blocks with a physical striker.

I say, rest Haaland (start Foden false 9) next game and I bet they win.

Or, to get real weird, put Haaland at right wing for the rest of the season like Lukaku did for a while and just murderously bully left backs, while Foden vacates space at false 9.

Fascinating times. :)

Worse, his effectiveness scoring maybe masked the fact that they were losing the potency of the traditional Pep tactical brilliance.

Where are the midfielders running past the striker unexpectedly? Where are the channels and half spaces? Where are the cut backs?!

Lewandowski Pep was good but couldn’t beat the top teams in CL, and Haaland Pep I think is now facing a similar problem, or a worse one.

Haaland was so singularly effective at scoring, that it became easy for City to score goals the last two years while not playing an effective Pep method.

…which dense low blocks left easy. Go old school if needed, play over rather than through super packed defenses. If just to keep teams honest.

But it has never really worked for long stretches in balance.

Zlatan Pep was a disaster (they didn’t get along) and results weren’t as envisioned.

…they do proportionately to top teams who play them open.

Knowing all this, and being frustrated by the odd draw at shit teams hurting his title bids, Pep always was fascinated to hybridize his style with a big physical striker so that when necessary, he could cross the ball from width…

The only way inferior teams have coped is to pack it in and deny those guys any spacing atop the box. Hope they can hold for 90’ and get a draw or maybe counter and get a goal.

And it worked, historically Pep’s elite teams drop more points to the odd shit team a couple times a season than…

Pep’s teams have always been such tiki taka ball monsters that the best way to beat them has been just sit back and absorb pressure for 90 min and pack it in.

Xavi Iniesta Messi David Silva KDB Foden Bernardo etc all these little creatives can kill anyone who gives them space to operate.

To (only slightly) oversimplify, it was the transfer that began the Barca downfall and Pep leaving.

And Zlatan was 10x the technical link up player than Haaland is.

For all his excellence, Pep has never consistently solved the low block for long before teams adjust and he needs a new way.

(Also they never counter attack…)

This month it’s gone fully into a mental collapse but I think a big underlying culprit that was true last year also but covered over is Haaland is a horrible fit.

The situation reminds of when Pep at Barca traded Etoo for Zlatan. The same decline happened…

None of that now. Haaland set goal records while making them stale.

Pep invented the false 9. He played small midfielders like fabregas at striker.

And now he’s over catered to an incredible battering ram counter attack pace/strength monster player, Erling, and the philosophies clash.

#mancity nowadays are basically 6 players trying to supply Haaland who is really stationary and Foden shooting from the same spot top of box.

Extremely predictable.

Pep’s whole thing forever was unexpected striker movements dropping deep and unexpected midfielders arriving past them into box.

Haaland is the problem, a thread.

#mancity #fpl #hahaha

So obviously City are mentally gone right now. But the other problem is the amazing Haaland.

I predict their next win comes when they rest Haaland and start Foden false 9.

Here’s the issue and I’m surprised no journalists have argued:

Maybe? Please?

Hard to say, have to look into fixtures I guess. On the face of it I’m not a fan of this manager chip. Too complex

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

New take on the #mysterychip.

FPL Towers only decided what it was once the season got going and they realized they needed some mechanism to draw money out of people going no Haaland.

Every season they are going to have a “mystery chip” unveiled only once they see what steering is needed.

Chelsea fans, who gets more minutes in the next 10 games.

Sancho or Enzo?

I think it’s Enzo.

@fmlfpl.bsky.social great discussion as usual about them but don’t overlook how many wingers they have. Sancho minutes questions? Even if “first choice” LW
