CPB is Corporation for Public Broadcasting. I think you're thinking about CBP which is Customs and Border Patrol. I was trying to show how fiscally meaningless cutting CPB funding was.

Wikipedia definitely might not be accurate, but it said $535M which would be 0.535B. I could be reading it wrong. I like the idea because hearing "this will save $50M" sounds like a lot, but hearing "this will save 0.05B" doesn't sound as big relative to other things.
I've seen it suggested that journalists and legislators should just adopt billion as the standard unit and reference everything in terms of that. So, NASA's budget would be 24.4, the tax cut would be 3,000, and the CPB budget would be 0.5 to help people understand the scale.
Always interesting to note that Harlan dissented in both Plessy and Wong Kim Ark.
When I was teaching English in China around 2000, I found a copy of this in a backpackers' hostel in Yunnan. I wonder what any of the Chinese and other non-native English readers thought of it.
Dads make diaper changes, but they do not do it as they please; they do not change diapers under self-selected circumstances, but respond to diaper circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past. Remnants of past feedings weigh like a nightmare on the diapers of the living.
COYS!! Champions League football for Spurs next season! Hopefully Postecoglou is back so we can be relegated from the Premier League while being champions of Europe!
The votes from California were sadly predictable but no less disappointing.

This is a really beautiful piece from @mcsweeneys.net about the inherent value of neurodivergent people. RFK Jr. is dead wrong in the way he demeans and diminishes people with autism.

Was Pope Leo one of the couple of Chicago guys on the corner?

I read hundreds of arrival investigations for my dissertation research. I don't recall seeing any related to the 1904 Olympics, but Chinese who came to attend or work at the World's Fairs hosted in the U.S. were required to post bonds and heavily surveilled after entering. Sadly, this isn't new.
Oh, yeah, I doubt the Chief Umpire would do that. I also agree with your analysis that WKA and birthright citizenship are on pretty firm legal ground, but I can't take anything for granted with Roberts.
Yeah, I know they're different cases viewed in completely different ways. It just struck me that these 2 cases (and maybe Chae Chan Ping) are the Asian American cases that enter mainstream discourse and Roberts has already *overturned* one and now Trump may give him an opportunity to get the other.
John Roberts (claims to have) overturned Korematsu, what's to say he won't go after Wong Kim Ark too? Sure, the Fuller Court called it a strike 100+ years ago, but Umpire Roberts might call it a ball if Trump asks him nicely.
This seems better than / something to do in addition to wearing a bracelet or a safety pin.
I rarely post here, but might start more. Glad you are here and not elsewhere.
