I don’t think I’ve thought about a game as much or often since my first play as Molly House. A sensational experience that communicated its themes (in the literary sense) with a deft hand. Also, one of the few games to deal with sex and desire in a way that is mature and isn’t leering or boorish.
Magical Athlete is an all-timer, especially if you have kids. Every kid I've shown it to, it captures their imagination almost instantly and they get obsessed. I'm also excited to play Molly House, I backed the recent reprint ^_^
As always, play great games! We'll see you around the table and we'll be back with more in 2027.

Last and certainly not least is our 2026 American Tabletop Award for Complex Games! This year's winner is Molly House, from @wehrlegig.games!

Huge congrats to @cmyk.games @perryjon.bsky.social @mattleacock.bsky.social @miasmacorp.bsky.social @alex.cmyk.games!
Thanks for playing! Always love seeing the stock broker card out and a massive court of directors pile
Friday night, John Company by @wehrlegig.games with the board game crew. This is my favorite game of all time. The design is pretty close to flawless, and it's a game that I love playing even if I'm getting crushed.
It was nice to get back to work properly on An Infamous Traffic at #CircleDC I had missed working on economic games!
BTW if *you* are a game designer or related nerd and would like to hang — or would like to have your 18th century inspired game playtested by some great subject matter experts — please let me know.
@asecsoffice.bsky.social heads next to:
- Portland, OR April 2026
- Richmond, VA in 2027
The first of many! Thanks for having us and what a joy to get a chance to bring our games here. LOTS OF IDEAS ABOUT NEXT TIME

In an alternate universe where I went to UT @colewehrle.bsky.social & I would have been PhD classmates.
But I’m so glad to know him & Drew as we are now, & to welcome them & @wehrlegig.games & @jdragsky.bsky.social to @asecsoffice.bsky.social — the first of many schemes to come, I hope. #asecs26
you are never writing a new thing on a blank sheet, you are always simply hammering a next tie in the labyrinthine rail system of culture
Small scene of kids playing a piggyback tug-o-war from the painting of Children's Game by Brugel (1560).
Cole's latest essay On Expansions is less about Arcs and more about the history of games, modern tabletop designers, Marxist theory, and the nature of collaboration. Read here: buriedgiant.com/blog/Arcs-be...
Really looking forward to coming out this year!

Reading the rules for Molly House now and I want to plaaaaayyy it
"For a game to occur at all, players must agree to its social contract and see it through to the end. That also puts them in collaboration with the designer, who can impose limitations to create systems and ideas, but can't completely control their interpretation."
This week, I get into the weeds on the final stages of Arcs's development, crunch culture, and how our work on Arcs shaped the projects that followed. You can find the video version here: youtu.be/15LSvDt_DD8
I'm sure you'll see a lot of experimentation on our end over the next few months as we think about new ways of sharing how we approach projects like this. For my part, I'm just excited that we are finally ready to start talking about the next projects.
In a few weeks, we're going to be launching the next Arcs campaign. As usual, we'll be doing a series of design and development diaries as we get the campaign ready. However, this time we wanted to do something a little different. youtu.be/DU3kU7rQnNg
We're getting ready to launch the Arcs: Beyond the Reach crowdfunding campaign, which means it's time to start releasing Design Diaries! This first one sets the stage for some core principles at Buried Giant.

This interview was a real pleasure, especially as it gave me an avenue to talk about music as well as games.

If you're heading to Gama next week, stop by the Buried Giant booth (#1049). And, if you're there early, you can come find me at a few events I'll be helping with during the education summit (little schedule 🧵) @buriedgiantstudios.bsky.social
Big @decisionspace.bsky.social w/ @nealen.bsky.social from @secretlivesofgames.bsky.social in which we discuss what makes history games different from the rest of the hobby and go deep on Pax Ren, a favorite of both of us. We also talk a lot about @wehrlegig.games!

An adorable valentine with a photo of Liz Davidson. Text reads: Would you be our creative director? To Liz, from Leder Games.
Y'all, SHE SAID YES!
Happy-almost-Valentine's-Day to our new Creative Director: Liz Davidson!
