My first year #BIOL131 and #BIOL131Z kiddywinks (274 of them!) have their Examination right now. Thus I am in Expectant Father Mode, checking the electronic results live and watching them as they go. The first ones usually finish in 20 mins (36 MCQ questions) and very few use the whole 1h30.
That’s sad news. Oddly enough I found myself thinking “I’ve not heard anything about him in a while” the other day. Enjoyed him in the not-well-liked “To Die For” (aka “Heaven’s a Drag”) in 1994.

Having shifted from field-heavy microbial ecophysiology to pure physiology 15 years ago following loss of mobility etc almost overnight, this sort of conversation is vital. Trouble is, most abled people believe it’ll never happen to them (I mean, I thought that!) thus don’t consider us very well.

I’ve been saying this for 20 years: proteins being made rapidly at high levels seldom have a standing pool of detectable mRNA. We’ve known this since the 1980s but transcriptomics
and even RT-qPCR have always ignored it.
Starting to migrate from Instagram - having fled there from Twitter - looking for an oasis of sense in this ever hostile world… ☹️
