Steve Silberman's book Neurotribes goes into great detail about the history of eugenics prior to WWII, and how it was basically a popular philosophy among intellectuals on a global scale, including the US. Maybe people are broadening that into general assumptions about bigotry.

I think most of them are also into ham radio and they have no patience for someone who has zero exposure to the tech or the nomenclature. Answers often come as a single word. 😆

The single most helpful thing I did was join my local Meshtastic discord - they have primers for how to get started and a bunch of people who will (somewhat grumpily) answer questions

I am extremely novice! I bought a super cheap Heltec V3 kit and fiddled with that a bit before getting a couple of V4s. I'm in an urban area with a bunch of nodes nearby so I haven't ventured there yet. Mostly I've been printing cases and trying to install an on-off switch. :)
