If just a ‘proof of concept’ phase 2, could you demonstrate trial intervention’s mortality rate without a control arm, and just compare to recent historical controls? Then at least you have human data to re-evaluate the ethical considerations of randomisation…

Advice for clinicians
•
Confirm acute dengue infection by sending EDTA (edetic acid) and serum samples to RIPL for serology and PCR analysis
•
Counsel the affected individuals regarding the risk of secondary or severe dengue infection
•
Inform regarding the upcoming availability of the vaccine via private prescription
•
Explain the need to present early before travel to ensure sufficient time for serological testing (wherever necessary) and for the administration of two doses of Qdenga over 3 months
•
Convey the fact that dengue vaccination does not negate the need for avoiding insect bites

I like to ask them what THEY want to learn about. Give them a day or more to think about it, there's no rush to plan. Invite them to think about a syndrome or pathogen which is relevant to a current patient. Then explore what they already know, and build up from there ☺️ #IDSky #MedEd #IDMedEd

Notes from the Field: First Locally Acquired Dengue ... This report describes the public health response after a case of dengue was reported in California.

When thinking about "Fever in a returned traveler", will need to consider Dengue in a person who traveled to the 🇺🇸, as
