Do you remember your first protest? For many of these youth, their first protest ever was against AI.
Are they worried about their future? You bet.
See photos and my interview with the 15-year-old lead organizer.

The agreement received a lot of feedback before the deadline of March 27, but barely any changes were made to the original. 11 Indigenous groups in Alberta commented with concerns about UNDRIP and the province's regulatory regime.

When an announcement from the government goes out just before a long weekend, you know there’s a reason they slotted it in when less likely to be noticed.
The new cooperation agreement giving Alberta greater control over environmental impact assessments was finalized on April 2.

Voters in a small Missouri town, unhappy with the city council’s approval of a $6B data center, ousted all four incumbent council members running for reelection
Is Brookfield going all in on AI right now...? Yes, indeed it is.
And adding only the prompt to the alt text without inputting real descriptions is just total ignorance. Blocked, with disdain.
You can block hashtags. I just blocked hashtag AIart. This is because people are tagging their AI prompts alongside real art hashtag feeds. Not acceptable.
Those residents went to court and the judge ordered them to turn the water back on until the issue is resolved.
What are we even doing? Yikes.

While they have been bending over backwards for massive water-guzzling AI data centres and power plants, the Town of Olds actually shut off water to some residents in town who were opposed to new "smart" meters they've been installing.

There's so much going on right now...I have been basically working full-time and can't keep up with the breaking stories.
But you won't believe this one...I have seen hardly any media coverage of this...

According to the Town, these maps are “a helpful tool for realtors, property buyers, developers, and others.” So, is already affecting property values?
This just in from eagle-eyed residents in Olds, the Town's website has already placed the Synapse Data Centre on the town map.
This is "not a project" according to Glubish. It doesn't have a development permit yet, nor does it have approval from the utilities or environmental regulators.

Thank you!
"Being 'amenable to persuasion' is an expectation of councillors in every public hearing...
But more than half of the council members who participated in public hearings on blanket rezoning, including Mayor Jeromy Farkas, had already publicly committed to repealing the policy."
So they did🙃

Sorry about the LinkedIn short link! We're having a little trouble with our website and Bluesky right now.

The minister was full of surprises at a recent town hall in Olds. I obtained a recording of the meeting and reported on it in my recent article for The Mix!

And he said there were no financial incentives being offered, even though the govt promised 0% data centre tax levied on projects that bring their own power (which is the majority) compared to the small number of data centres connecting to the grid who have to pay the levy.

He claimed it "wasn’t a project," even though the province has a page for it on their website calling it a “major project.”
He criticized the news release as premature, even though he posted about it on his LinkedIn, calling it a “validation” of the government’s data centre strategy.

He told the crowd at the meeting there would be no shortcuts in the environmental reviews of the project, even though the province itself has exempted the massive project from an environmental impact assessment and any Indigenous consultation.
(they called him out on that)

Both the council and the company probably deserved the criticism, but Glubish also admitted that the town council had been reaching out to his office with questions and asking for clarity but he hadn’t gotten back to them until recently.

You might say that Alberta Technology & Innovation Minister Nate Glubish threw town council and a private company "under the bus" in a meeting with the Olds community to discuss their opposition to $10B AI data centre and gas power plant.

Breaking!!
The court issued an interim stay already on the separatist case heard this week! 👏
Also, here's a video from a local resident showing the location of the data centre/power plant in relation to people's homes.
