Motor biases reflect a misalignment between visual and proprioceptive reference frames The pattern of reaching biases is stable across contexts and can be attributed to a misalignment between eye-centric and body-centric representations of position.

New @elife.bsky.social version of record:

We show that movement biases primarily reflect misalignment between visual and proprioceptive reference frames during motor planning.

Interference Underlies Attenuation upon Relearning in Sensorimotor Adaptation Savings refers to the gain in performance upon relearning. In sensorimotor adaptation, savings is tested by having participants adapt to perturbed feedback and, following a washout block during which ...

Happy to share that our study “Interference underlies attenuation upon relearning in sensorimotor adaptation” is now out in @SfNJournals #eNeuro!

Mental graphs structure the storage and retrieval of visuomotor associations - Nature Human Behaviour Trach and McDougle show that motor responses can form part of structured, graph-like memory representations.

Please check this out. It was a years-long effort by Max that revealed much more than we thought it would at the start.

The data and modeling clearly show that strategic re-aiming does not conform to the behavioral pattern we expect from random exploration or directly minimizing error.

An 'Aha!' moment precedes the strategic response to a visuomotor rotation Strategic behaviour in sensorimotor adaptation tasks is typically modelled either as an error minimisation process or as a process of learning through trial-and-error. The former predicts a gradual re...

New work led by Max Townsend showing that the strategic response to a visuomotor rotation ('explicit adaptation') is best described as insight learning, rather than gradual error-based or explorative learning.

I think it likely to literally be worth the time for a prolific worker.

I’d check if these suspected ChatGPT users do the surveys much faster.

Input device matters for measures of behaviour in online experiments - Psychological Research Studies of perception, cognition, and action increasingly rely on measures derived from the movements of a cursor to investigate how psychological processes unfold over time. This method is one of the...

Now published: doi.org/10.1007/s004...

We demonstrate that cursor movements differ depending on the input device used in online experiments. Given that cursor movements are increasingly used to investigate ongoing perceptual, cognitive, and motoric processes, it is an important variable to consider
