This week’s TV viewing is a somewhat eclectic bunch.
Decades on and I’m still not over Andi (and then Emma) leaving Live & Kicking. 😢
We thought we would take you back to 24 September 1994 today for the first programme of the second series of Live & Kicking.
Some of the features we knew and loved from L&K started here, including the RugRats and the phone jingle.

Thought it was Trevor and Simon for a moment
Both excellent choices. To be honest, it’s difficult to choose, because they are all brilliant.
Love it. It’s just lots of fun. Things go sour with the third (which is mostly just boring), and then implode with The Next Mutation series. Although, that did at least lead to the improbable Turtles/Power Rangers crossover. But yes, Secret of the Ooze is great!

“Step up to red alert.”
“Sir, are you absolutely sure. It does mean changing the bulb.”
And just think, you can have more fun with the next film. And then you have a drinks coaster for the third.

And for those wanting something not too dissimilar, perhaps the spiritual successor to #Batman66 is the excellent Batman: The Brave and the Bold. One of the best Batman cartoons of all time.
Yeah, that’s fair. For many people, THIS IS BATMAN. Some like the dark brooding Batman, while others only care for this. And both choices are correct.
But the true legacy of #Batman66 is that all these years on (60 years this year!), it’s still regarded as a beloved show. It entered the zeitgeist, was parodied many times, and influenced the ‘90s movies and more! It’s arguably one of the greatest bits of Batman mythology in existence.
And then there were two animated #Batman66 movies: Return of the Caped Crusaders and Batman Vs. Two-Face (with William Shatner voicing Two-Face).
Other projects included The New Adventures of Batman cartoon, as well as the TV movie, Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt (which also included Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, and Frank Gorshin).
Outside of #Batman66, Adam West, Burt Ward, and Frank Gorshin reprised their roles of Batman, Robin, and Riddler respectively in the ‘70s for the AWFUL Legends of the Superheroes TV special.
And #Batman66 concludes with a rather uneventful episode featuring Zsa Zsa Gabor as Minerva. Not a great way to end the show (it should have ended with the movie), but with the budget cuts and the drop in ratings it’s not surprising the show concluded here.
The highlight of this ep is when Cassandra frees all of Batman’s foes, giving his major enemies one final appearance… albeit with stand-ins instead of the main actors. Oddly, Catwoman’s stand-in looks like Julie Newmar, and not Eartha Kitt.
…introducing Batgirl and keeping the majority of stories to just 25mins gave the show a second wind. Sure, Batgirl takes a bit of the focus off the Dynamic Duo, but I’m fine with the Terrific Trio. Shame Batgirl didn’t arrive in season two.
Have to say, despite the budget cuts I really like the Batgirl era, especially the single episode format. For me, #Batman66 lost its momentum during season two. Too long, and the double-episode format became stale…
