I was quite disappointed at how little Jack challenged him on anything other than his leadership ambitions or Luxon's future

Nail. Head. I think Jonathon could be dangerously close to realising that almost all CEOs are overpaid figureheads and actual work is done by many others.
I had heard that Renault were reconsidering the NZ market. iX3 will be available from mid this year
As a dumb airline pilot that just seems logical to me. Just hard to be sexed up for the media.
💯 speaking my language. Oh for some vision and leadership on that!
Sadly so few people seem to have good media literacy. If they did we wouldn't accept NZME and Stuff the way they are
You are clearly a rational actor. That doesn't seem to be the case at large. The problem with smashing the warning button over and over is that it loses it value and we end up with thr normalisation of deviance
The path is hard to track for sure and there is a lot more unpredictability due to the warming ocean and atmosphere. However, regardless of track the models didn't seem to show the intensity. We have to adapt and this is not the way to do it.
Yeah early on in the flight you can't climb over the turbulence. There was a widespread area of clear air turbulence from 40,000 feet and below too
Like if we have this level of bombast for this how do we keep people engaged when it inevitably gets a lot more frequent and intense with climate change
For sure. But it feels like a lot of boy cried wolf and it has negative flow on effects. All the data was available to give more accurate less "freak out warnings". A fairly benign system like this shouldn't result in panic buying and in my case worried passengers and flight attendants.
This just feels off the hook. Because even days ago no matter the track the synoptic charts weren't reconciling with the level of rhetoric, especially when "worse" has resulted in less. Media I get, they want the clicks. But MetService should be more straight-shooting
The NZAA TAF has BECMG 1202/1204 27025G45KT, not everyday winds but certainly does happen and did happen over summer. We don't even have +RA forecast. So I and a lot of colleagues are struggling to grasp what are we missing?
They've just decided to overplayed as per Cook in 2017 and it will set us up to downplay the next actually decent one like Gabrielle. It's just so dumb
Yeah the interaction of low pressure and high pressure systems is important but here we dont even have a massive differential. We also haven't had jetstreams feeding it. So this wakening low won't even produce wind speeds more than a Tuesday in Wellington. These systems can be dangerous...
Sure. I'm not saying there won't be anything happening but the level of rhetoric is nuts. Especially when far worse events are going to happen more regularly. Gaslighting the populace is a terrible method of preparation
I'm perplexed at how much they've dumped this down. Peak winds won't be more than gale, not storm winds, gale. It hasn't even been a cyclone since South of Fiji. It's a low with wind speeds and rain less than we experienced during summer. Why are they burning their credibility like this?
Have had chicken sashimi in Onomichi, was a real brain-bender but it was actually ok!
The cream cheese is pretty wrong I feel
Yeah I'm going to work this afternoon and feel like I've been gaslit because I can't see anything terribly unusual. Sure gusting 45 knots doesn't happen that often albeit this summer it did and it will happen more but it's fairly typical in Palmy, Welly, Dunners and Invers
We had weather like this over summer!
Get out at enjoy the day Auckland. Shouldn't get spicy until 9pm tonight. Secure you're garden equipment for sure but we had wind like this over summer.

NZ Government has no plan
Sunday 0600 NZST synoptic chart from MetVUW showing ex-cyclone Vaianu approaching the coastline of North Auckland
If there's one non-political thing that causes me hard eye rolls in NZ it's weather chat but I'm very confused by the pearl-clutching over ex-cyclone Vaianu. Winds on land around 35 knots and a decent amount of rain. We've dealt with much, much worse.
💯
5 years ago I budgeted $14,000 as baby setup and we got given stuff and got some second-hand stuff too
This story is confusing cause she reckons we don’t get the full story but he won’t go on Q+A or answer questions fully at press conferences. She reckons he is never at home cause he is out in the community all day so then why don’t the people know him fully?!
The math ain’t mathing.
Excerpt from article: For Ramon Méndez Galain, the energy transition isn’t just about climate—it’s about economics. Uruguay’s shift to renewables, he argues, demonstrated that clean energy can be cheaper, more stable, and create more jobs than fossil fuels. Once the country adjusted the playing field that had long favored oil and gas, renewables outperformed on every front: halving costs, creating 50,000 jobs, and protecting the economy from price shocks.
Really good article and so many parallels with what NZ could be.

F■ck off Aedes Aegypti! We very much do not want that mosquito establishing here.
The reality of climate change means it probably will sooner rather than laher but actually having a well staffed MPI would be an excellent mitigation.
