In 1902 the ship was used to repatriate troops after the Boer War in South Africa. One man has been named in this photograph, William M. Hood is the first on the left, leaning against the door.

A group of Scottish Horse troops in Southampton on the 27th of August 1902. The men had just disembarked the SS Gothic. This was a white Starline vessel built by Harland & Wolff Ltd, Belfast which was completed in 1893 and frequented a route from London to New Zealand via Australia.

"The Battle of Glen Tilt" - A Scottish Horse training camp activity at on of the pre 1914 camps in Glen Tilt. This activity required the troops to build a bridge across the river. One of the photographs refers to this as the Battle of Glen Tilt so it must have been difficult!

Charles MacIntosh was also known for his close friendship with beloved children’s author Beatrix Potter. The two met when Beatrix was summering in the area with her family and Charles was their local postman.
Charles was born in Inver near Dunkeld on the 27th of March 1839, he was known for his contributions to the Perthshire Society of Natural Science particularly his contributions around fungi. Charles was also an accomplished musician and composer.

Likely Torwood school which was closed in 1929 before the opening of the new larger Royal School of Dunkeld in 1930. Torwood School later became a youth hostel before it was demolished as part of the building of the new A9 bypass in the 1970s.

Three Scottish Horse troops on fatigue duty chopping wood in 1914.
Fatigue duty refers to non-combat manual labor assigned to military personnel, including tasks such as cleaning, digging trenches, and chopping wood.
Here is a memorial concert programme from nearly 40 years ago. When looking at this item we discovered the ticket for the event was hidden inside.
This year's Niel Gow festival will be held between the 20th and 22nd of March. Further information at www.nielgowfestival.co.uk

Scottish Horse troops passing by the Gate house in Birnam next to the Birnam Hotel. Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Fotheringham was leading the troops on the way to Bedford in 1915.
Having a bit of a freshen up! An unnamed gentleman painting the railings outside of the Free Church in Dunkeld (now home to Jeffreys Dunkeld and The United Lodge of Dunkeld No. 14).
This photograph is undated but was taken by James MacIntosh so will be between 1900 and 1920.
