Here's a helpful tip for all my fellow adults living through this terrible present in which we find ourselves: you can just buy yourself ice cream. You could, right this instant, go to a store and buy ice cream and then eat it!

Walk Hard and Weird have said all there is to be said on the subject of the music biopic. You have to do something at least that good and interesting or you're wasting everyone's time. Rocketman is the only recent one I can think of that qualifies.

How Email Open Tracking Quietly Took Over the Web You give up more privacy than you might think each time you open an email.

In honor of Tim Cook's stepping down, here is the story of how I emailed him, not once but twice, with open email tracking enabled, only to discover that, not once but twice, my emails to the CEO of Apple were opened on a computer running Windows.

In response to some bullshit going around:

Can we please fucking destigmatize men being nice to / caring about / engaging with kids? These are normal adult mammal instincts; what's fucked up is that we beat them out of people based on gender and/or assume they're inherently predatory.

Edited Star Trek anti-drug PSA to be pro-drugs. Kirk is saying "smoke this joint immediately. That's an order, mister". Spock is saying "yea, Captain Kirk. Thank you. Let's do drugs". There's a little logo that says "just say yes"

Edited meme image of Worf from Star Trek TNG. He's got a fat joint in his mouth that's got a big cloud of green smoke, his eyes are red, and the background has a repeating transparent pattern of weed leaves. In the corner it says "Weed Worf"

What's good for a weird emotional headspace is Star Trek, edibles, and ice cream. Highly recommend.

And the thing is!!! With Ossoff actually running right now, it's clear he understands this is a winning message.

I don't know why exactly but I've just been in my feelings all day today. Not in a bad way, necessarily, and not even, like, big feelings; just kind of a lot of feelings. Nothing to be done about it either, I'd listen to some music about it but I've had a low grade headache all weekend so that's out

Post image Over 120 years ago, a steam- powered elevator operated in the heart of St. Petersburg, Russia. It may sound like something out of a steampunk novel, but this remarkable invention existed.

Built c. 1902 for a private residence, this elevator didn't rely on electricity. Instead, it used steam power, a cutting-edge solution at the time. It’s a stunning example of how technology and art coexisted in the early 20th century.

The structure featured forged ironwork with floral patterns, typical of the Art Nouveau movement, which was flourishing in cities like St. Petersburg at the time. Inside the elevator, a beautifully crafted wooden bench invited passengers to sit and admire the surroundings.

Far from being just a machine, this elevator was a symbol of luxury, innovation, and aesthetic sophistication. It operated using steam pressure generated by boilers installed in the basement - a method common before electricity became widespread in buildings.

St. Petersburg, then the capital of the Russian Empire, was a hub of technological innovation and European influence. In neighborhoods like the Petrogradsky District, some early 20th-century buildings still preserve similar elevator shafts and decorative elements.

This wasn’t just about moving between floors. It was about experiencing progress with elegance and grace.

A steam-powered elevator in St. Petersburg, Russia, c. 1902–03. Installed in the house of Guard Captain S. Muyaki, it shows how even early elevators could be designed with extraordinary ornament and detail.

Lynne Thigpen as "The Chief" from Where In Time Is Carmen Sandiego

Lock the fuck in, Gumshoes. Carmen Sandiego stole a priceless wax pressing of "One of These Nights" by the Eagles. You've got to stop her before she travels back in time to 149 BC Carthage and trades it to Scipio Africanus the Younger for a kilo of the good shit.

And so I will circle around to my constant point: the instinct for a comforting aristocracy is endemic in the human populace, and the job of democracy is to ruthlessly destroy it whenever it appears. Not build a political, legal and moral (prosperity gospel) framework which fucking encourages it.

It’s inaccurate to say Mario is brave and Luigi is cowardly

Luigi is afraid of death, so he runs away from danger. Mario is afraid of living, so he runs towards death. Both brothers are cowards in their own way
