Stumbled across a "publisher" who is clearly using AI to produce shitty porn comics and using AI to generate posts.

"What do you mean you bought an apartment complex and are now using it as free housing for cartoonists!? There's no ROI on that!"
If you want your city to have amenities like lifeguards on your beaches you need to pay fucking taxes, sorry but that's just how it is

No successful tech in history that was actually "here to stay whether you like it or not" has had to sell itself this hard.
The harder you have to sell something the higher the chance the person you're selling to doesn't need the product.
Rule of thumb for advertisement in general imo.

I suppose this is a bit like Mark Carney calling Trump a "transformational" president.
I hope she regrets it privately

So I don't know. I understand that "the genie isn't going back in the bottle" but we really aren't reckoning with the nuclear bomb level of disruption this technology is bringing.

Like artistically this is like if they built an escalator to the top of Mount Everest and everyone on the escalator claimed to be the same as everyone who climbed it on foot.

You can pivot from acrylic to photoshop.
Generative AI suggests that you don't need to have any skill or knowledge or taste. It disuades exploration and iteration and homogenizes art and culture
6/9
But I think AI is something completely new, and I think it's ramifications can be dangerous. Typing a phrase and getting a finished image (we can split hairs on quality later). Is totally unlike past digital graphics advances
5/9
I see people trying to frame Generative AI in the same way as "just a tool".
And my reservations are only because I'm old and out of touch

Likewise digital paintings become popular. And everyone was using Adobe.
However, there were still people doing oil and acrylic paintings, digital art just became another medium

I don't think this was untrue. And a lot of these developments made access to print easier for many people as well as cheaper and with less waste.
2/9
I remember conversations about how layout artists and film strippers were going to have to "pivot" and that PDFs and direct to plate and digital printing were "inevitable" and older people had to "adapt".

I think about when I was in high school and I took a graphic arts class. I learned how to develop film, strip a layout on golden rod, burn that onto a plate a print it on an offset press. Nearly every step of the print process was revolutionized by computers and digital technology
This is also very different from past technological advances. Switching from watercolour to Photoshop still requires you to learn and grow your creativity vs Gen AI which encourages plagiarism and a homogeneous culture
This guy is the Victor Orban of Canada. It's pretty depressing that a majority of Ontarians seem to love this guys boot on their throat

I'm also basing this on anecdotal evidence. But I also hear that students will use AI to avoid doing homework, they just don't use AI for what they actually care about, but who knows π€·ββοΈ
Yeah, I think that statement is less true in 2026. I know a lot of people under 35 who hate AI, and a lot of people over the age of 35 who have removed their brain and replaced it with Chat GPT
David Eby used to be well regarded in leftist activist circles. I really want to know what dirt the mining companies have on him to make him sell out all of his principles
