Excited to share another paper from work I did during my PhD with @trishschulte.bsky.social and @madisonearhart.bsky.social. We looked at how fish embryos respond differently to constant and fluctuating temperatures! π
So proud of you and so sad I missed this!
This is so cool and creative !!
Congratulations π₯³ Guido and I are very proud of you !!
here is the paper link!!! :

This was a team effort π«ΆπΌ with @wbuggiii.bsky.social, @biomatt.bsky.social, @trishschulte.bsky.social, and bluesky-less Gary and Ken
Different process which changed in the gill of lake sturgeon during early development.
New lake sturgeon work out investigating transcriptional shifts in the gill during early development
mRNA changes associated with histone modifications, DNA methylation, and apoptosis were conserved across both populations, as well as population-specific processes

Iβll have to come say hi one day π₯°
these REUs are so crucial for undergraduates to get to do science, for their careers, and for all of us because undergraduates are our future and we need to support and nurture their brilliance ~ this is heartbreaking π

Another paper from my PhD where we looked at the short and long term effects of raising embryos at two different temperatures π
Interestingly hypoxia tolerance but not thermal tolerance was shown to be altered in juveniles.
How do early developmental conditions affect stressor resilience in fish later in life?
We investigated this in a new paper lead by @tblanchard.bsky.social! π§ͺπ©π»βπ¬πππ¦
We found that in killifish, sub-optimal developmental temps had lasting negative impacts on hypoxia tolerance later in life ππΌ
please fill out this form if you are a part of AFS or fisheries science in general,
they are also voting to remove CLIMATE CHANGE from their 5 year plan - absolutely horrendous behavior

With a beautiful figure π€©
Well thatβs promising cause I havenβt attempted it yet π

Wow what a babysitter π₯°
two notes from students to say thank you with two chocolate bars.
Survived my first ever term as a Lecturer, even though I still have lots to learn, my students are what made the class so enjoyable to teach. My biggest takeaway from teaching is to show students you care, and to that I look forward to what next semester brings.
I second this ππβ
This sounds awesome! Is this 180?
Ooo yes! Iβll register today!
This is awesome!!
After almost 6 years of work, I have officially turned in my PhD thesis π
This is adorable ππ
The Alternative Grading SoTL linkage grant Iβm working on with @drceleste.bsky.social (and many others) has FINALLY had the Ethics application approved! π₯³
Time to start doing the work!
