An Incomplete History of Marathon Shenanigans

I had not expected to become so invested in people manipulating marathon times but I confess over these past few months, you’ve now got me bought in.

Watched the Martin pass on Pecco multiple times. Watched MM on Acosta back to back. How one of those is a penalty and one isn’t is first grade nonsense. Either both are or both aren’t Simon.

Which is nonsense justification IMO. The moves were essentially identical so last lap or two to go shouldn’t make a difference. And if they do, last lap should be judged more harshly because the guy behind doesn’t have time to respond.

Did you watch the same race?

Why? I’m not saying it should be a penalty, but how is that different from Thailand?

If MM got a penalty in Thailand, Martin should get one here. Neither deserved one but Crafar has about as consistent as an early model Alfa Romeo.

It felt like taking the piss in the other direction to me, esp looking at other non penalties last yr & even Alex’s move this race. I don’t personally want riders thinking ‘I wonder what mood Simon is in today’ before that line up a move. Obviously that’s embellishing but you take me point.

That feels like accepting inconsistency to me. Either we penalise all those moves, which would be a disaster, or we only penalise in clear cut cases of dangerous riding, which I assume we agree that wasn’t, just aggressive. Pedro left just enough room for the invitation IMO.

Sure, but Crafar has always been ‘let them race’ and lately he’s been like an over protective parent. The knock on effect is surely going to dull the racing as riders worry about making a move.

Well that would’ve been an all time classic until Crafar decided to make sure it was all about him. Terrible decision. #ThaiGP
