The Yellow Cloud was originally titled The Green Cloud, but the title (& cloud color) was changed as "Green" had been recently used in a title.

One area were Doc was unusual for the time: He tried to not kill any of the bad guys. However, many died from their own traps. Those who lived were captured & sent to the Crime College were they were operated on to remove their criminal history. (Yep.) They were retrained and returned to society.

Let me strive, every moment of my life, to make myself better and better, to the best of my ability, that all may profit by it.
Let me think of the right, and lend all my assistance to those who need it, with no regard for anything but justice.
Let me take what comes with a smile, without loss of courage.
Let me be considerate of my country, of my fellow citizens and my associates in everything I say and do.
Let me do right to all, and wrong no man.

My favorite version of the Doc Savage Code is the one we worked up at the start of COVID. #docsavage #pulp

(BTW: Yes, it was the "code," and not the "oath.")

Why "Bronze?"
A Flearunner recently asked
"Why does Doc have bronzed skin -- canonically?"

Well, in the original Doc Savage novella
by John Nanovic and Henry Ralston
(Doc Savage - Supreme Adventurer) we have this:

"The skin was of a healthy bronze color, bespeaking of long years spent beneath tropic suns and northern skies, of an active, exhilarating life of a man of action and adventure."

Lester Dent, the primary Doc Savage author,
wrote in his notes:

"Fine and firm and perfect as skin ever was. A skin that radiates Doc's perfect health. It, too, is bronze, made so by the elements of innumerable climes. Doc's skin has the unusual quality of not reacting to the elements---that is, it don't get red in the wind, it don't sunburn."

Remind you of anyone you know?

Why is Doc Savage called "The Man of Bronze?" Well, because of his skin. And why is his skin "bronze?" We need to go back to the source:

Doc Savage: Flight Into Fear (hardcover) – Adventures in Bronze

Doc Savage author Will Murray -- "When we re-printed it, I did a serious rewrite and added several new chapters to make it a stronger story. So if you’ve only read Flight into Fear in the Bantam Books edition, you haven’t read the definitive version."

A Feb 1932 letter from Street & Smith asking Lester Dent to submit a Shadow novel. This led to Dent getting the Doc Savage gig.

On Feb. 25, 1932, Street & Smith Editor Frank Blackwell sought out Lester Dent to write a Shadow novel, see the Flearun card on why this makes today

The Start for Lester Dent at S&S Day!

Dent would write his first Doc Savage in late 1932.
