We have an open PhD position on Fair Social Network Analysis (focused on method development but also on integrating social theory and real data analysis). Please consider applying if this is something of your interest or share this to potentially interested candidates. uuinfolab.github.io/joinus/
Please consider contributing to our special issue on communicating the climate crisis in an age of rising authoritarian populism. We accept short commentaries and full research papers.

Fantastic keynote by @lauraknelson.bsky.social
Looking forward to see many colleagues and friends!
Congratulations to @giorgospanay.bsky.social for his half-time PhD seminar: "Fair and Scalable Multilayer Network Community Detection".
Congratulations to @theamoldovan.bsky.social, who defended her Master's thesis: "Exploring Collective Action in Black Lives Matter Podcast Conversations".
Congratulations to Anand, who defended his Master's thesis: "A comparative study of Fairness Metrics for Modularity-based Community Detection".
This week we had the pleasure to host our colleagues and friends from Università della Calabria. @luciolcw.bsky.social delivered a well-attended intensive course on Large Language Models, and Andrea Tagarelli presented the research done by his team. We look forward to new collaborations.
[edit with right link] New report where we construct and analyse a population-scale (multilayer) social network for Sweden: "Anatomy of a Swedish population-scale network", available here: osf.io/preprints/so... This allows us to relate social network features with other socio-demographic variables.
In this new publication we propose and compare algorithmic approaches to efficiently process networks where edge existence is uncertain, e.g. because of imperfect data collection. "On the accurate computation of expected modularity in probabilistic networks", Sci.Reports arxiv.org/abs/2408.07161
New publication, where we look at climate change communication on YouTube via API research, channel coding, and computational image analysis.

Asking #DeepSeek (neutral?) questions such as "What's the political system in China?", it first writes a long answer explaining it, then the answer disappears from the app and is replaced by: "Sorry, that's beyond my current scope. Let's talk about something else" 😅
