Academia should have more and better jobs, of course, but insofar as it currently doesn’t, nobody should be beating themselves up. Moreover, the outside is actually pretty nice for most people, and there are many places to use what you learned to do.

The spot silently defying your setup: your clean grip job, your well grooved trucks, your grippyslidey wheels, the basalt layers between your deck’s plies, your dope fit, your perfectly laced shoes, your years of experience and decades of secondhand knowledge, your insistent will and persistent hope

still can’t believe that given the choice between “bountiful, free, clean energy from the earth, wind, and sun” and “poisonous dead animal sludge price sensitive to global politics” we keep choosing the latter

some things about becoming a parent are radicalizing in ways I expected - e.g being reminded viscerally how screwed we'd all be if childcare and other care work disappeared. but other things are radicalizing in ways I didn't - like experiencing constant spontaneous solidarity in ways big and small

“It’s a list a child would make! “MY PHILOSOPHY: 1. You must be NICE to me. 2. My hunger for candy shows that I am SMART.” It’s embarrassing! Have some self respect, dude. You are a right wing billionaire weapons merchant. You are the human face of technological totalitarianism.”

OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman reminding everyone that the damage AI use does to your brain is a feature, not a bug: "We see a future where intelligence is a utility like electricity or water and people buy it from us on a meter".

Todd is a good follow

It’s a good question, let’s clear the air:

1) Disco is awesome, like 25 all-time classic tracks in a 4 year span,

2) Disco was hated because it was queer, brown, and black,

3) Disco was hated because it paired women and men in a different power dynamic.

4) “Disco Sucks” was a “ MAGA” test run.
