Great conversation Monday night between @jeffreygoldberg.bsky.social and @davidmaraniss.bsky.social at tonight’s Shadid Award ceremony, presented by @uwethics.bsky.social at the National Press Club.
No process servers showed up. But there also wasn’t free cranberry walnut bread from Le Diplomate.
Happy 94th birthday to the brilliant Elaine May.
How about an upside down, inverted checkmark?
Looks like someone bowing down.

Couldn’t hit “order” fast enough.
In an era of too many “Rod Serling moments,” I can’t think of a more timely TV bio, even though Serling has been gone more than half a century. And Alan is sure to bring just the right mix or reporting and analysis.
Someone should ask him how many journalists with dignity will be present at Saturday’s WHCA dinner, where he’ll perform.
Or ask whether pocket squares will have any effect on democracy or eroding press freedoms.
NY Yankees fan Max Mannis, 24, on the “incessant” noise the Yankee Stadium PA system now spews at high volume:
“They’ve turned it into a nightclub. … If you play well on the field, I will make noise, I promise you. … You don’t need to make it artificial and you don’t need to ask me for it.”

Cool and damp here at Nationals Park, where the Nationals are taking on the Giants. Plenty of good seats available. so if you’re in the neighborhood, feel free to stop on by.
Got to hold one of the Oscars that “Ed Wood” won for Best Makeup.
During a break in the show, I saw a guy at the 1995 ceremony outside the women’s restroom holding it while his award-winning date was inside, so I cleverly asked if it was heavy. It did have solid heft.
So did Elon Musk.
He who smelt it dealt it.
Enjoyed the “Lorne” documentary. Drew a “Melania”-sized crowd my 7:15 pm showing tonight.
AMC’s aversion to proper concession-stand staffing is going to make it easier to opt out of snacks at minibar prices, and ultimately diminishes the in-theater movie experience.
“We’re trying to find the guy who did this.”
The thrust of Jake Tapper’s last book: Media let everyone down by not challenging Biden WH spin with tough reporting.
The thrust of Jake Tapper’s next book: Media let everyone down by not challenging Trump WH spin with pocket squares.
Remind me again, Jake: How much of a pocket square is visible outside the pocket?
Editor’s note: If you plan to solve the Sunday Crossword in this week’s New York Times Magazine, you will find that the answers will not fit. After the issue had already been printed, we discovered that there was an error with the solvable grid of the Sunday Crossword. A corrected version of the puzzle can be found on Page 25 of Sunday’s daily New York Times. We sincerely apologize for the confusion.
PSA: Your sneaking suspicions about the crossword are, for the one and only time in your whole life, correct!
This makes me wonder whether the playoffs actually start tonight…
I have to turn this off. Schriffen is treating the final out of the first inning like it’s the ninth in a Game 7.
Gordon Beckham is a big step down from Steve Stone. Dan Plesac would be the backup TV analyst of choice for discerning White Sox fans.
Listening to Marquee’s Cole Wright rhapsodize about Jackie Robinson Day, I just want to repeat…
Well, now I want it more.
I thought it was just me, because I’m here.
Jackson Browne anticipated this delay.
Plenty of good seats available as the White Sox seek to avert a series sweep vs. the Rays.
