Archaeologists Find Iliad “Catalog of Ships” Papyrus Inside Egyptian Mummy - Arkeonews Archaeologists in Egypt’s Oxyrhynchus have discovered a Roman-era tomb containing mummies with golden tongues and a rare papyrus

This is just so cool. A Roman-era mummy recently excavated in Egypt contained a fragment of papyrus with a section of the Iliad.

6th-Century Fire in Phanagoria Reveals Lost Wallets Filled with Ancient Coins—Including Counterfeits - Arkeonews 6th-century fire in Phanagoria reveals lost wallets filled with ancient Bosporan coins, including rare counterfeits, offering new insight

What can coinage tell us about crisis? 🪙 The spatial pattern of finds from late antique Phanagoria (Black Sea, now Russia: pleiades.stoa.org/places/854724) indicate citizens dropping coin purses, likely during a fire while the city was besieged (Justinianic, 545-554 CE) arkeonews.net/6th-century-...

This is what I try to emphasize to people. What the Israelis are doing is actually entirely rational in so far as the US and Europe have given them the incentive structure to do exactly as they please to anyone they please and without pushback in any real or tangible form. That is the West's fault.

Put another way, I think the Jewishness of the army and the state is basically incidental. This is simply what happens when you have a racial supremacist state and a racial supremacist army and a racial supremacist law. The soldiers, regardless of the particulars, will act as if they are supreme.

Ok, this week has started incredibly well as we've just stumbled across a website that collects, curates & archives "vintage Indonesian labels and stickers – presenting the archipelago’s lavish visuals and their significance as knowledge and reference materials."

And in order to hear the birds,

One of the four ‘Dacre Bears’ located in the churchyard of St. Andrew’s Church at Dacre in Cumbria. Their origins are unknown, but it has been suggested that they are pre-Saxon and may have served as boundary markers for a pagan shrine. 📸 My own. #StoneworkSunday #Darce

Bloody hell that is a unvarnished white supremacist techno fascist imperialist manifesto. It gross & deeply concerning that Palantir is so deeply embedded in not just the US gov't but also spreading to other countries through contracts such as with the NHS in the UK.

Well it was inevitable—but trolls who follow me have decided to review bomb the B&N listing for High Tide.

My haters are (of course) related to my trans identity and the human rights I openly fight for.

Please support me by reporting the trolls posts and putting a positive review of your own!

My photo shows a frontal view of a buff-coloured Minoan pottery jug with a dark-red, stylised octopus painted beneath the dark red pouring spout. The jug has a rounded body with very short neck with out-turned rim, the body tapers downwards to a slightly turned out flat base also painted red. On each shoulder there’s a small chunky loop handle. The octopus is stylised and looks cartoon-like with a vertical dumbbell shaped body, with two large circular eyes with central red dots staring out at the viewer. From the top of the head emerge eight suckered arms. Four arms hang symmetrically downwards on each side of the body, writhing and curling at the tip. There is a similar red octopus on each side of the jug not shown in my photo.

The fact that Mamdani just seems like a cheerful normal guy who's policies are things like "we're going to tax second homes to fund pothole repairs" or whatever and yet this generates panicked responses like "This is basically Stalin's great purge turned up to eleven" is... telling. It tells things.

no one likes historians because every time someone says “oh this is unheard of”

historians are all like “well actually”

and fundamentally it just doesn’t sound as impressive if you have to say
“in these slightly precedented times”
