Yesterday, I repeated the mouse ears for the frame of the drawing. Today it’s a hermit crab’s rounded triangle eyeball shape for the frame. Hermit crab eyeballs are so darn cute!!

Thank you so much. Art can be so humbling! It can feel like frustration and progress at the same time.

I had fun playing with the “botanical” component of the challenge as well. I made cloud flowers. Clouds, after all, can look like anything!

Vulture Cultures - JSTOR Daily By turns worshipped and reviled, the bird frequently associated with death has appeared in art works for thousands of years. Here’s a short history.

If you are curious about what vultures have symbolized in the past and across cultures, I found this article fascinating: daily.jstor.org/vulture-cultures/

Vultures were associated with death, but also life and birth. In fact, the Egyptian word for mother was written with the vulture hieroglyph.”

But, here’s the thing (war aside). Vultures don’t deserve their bad rap and superstitions. Vultures play a vital role in our ecosystems. By consuming dead animals, they help eliminate the spread of disease amongst animal populations.

Apparently, it’s the time of year for turkey vultures to find a nesting mate for the year, and it’s not uncommon for them to group up and perform ground rituals. I found them in droves in my backyard a day before the new war started, did freak me out a bit. Can we get more ominous?

I feel strongly that protecting children should never be political. Anyone who harms a child should be held accountable under the law, regardless of status or political position.

So I did work on my 100 day project in advance last night because…. Events.

What’s unfolding in Kansas feels deeply painful to witness. Trans people are human beings who deserve dignity, safety, and respect, just like anyone else.

As new lows are made even lower, I’m reminded of this saying:

When cruelty becomes normal, compassion looks radical. I’m a perfectly normal mom but these times would paint me a radical! Hardly! I simply see the patterns of racism and misogyny and I will not abide.
