a quote from Andrea Long Chu's review of Thomas Chatteron Williams' new slopfest of a book: This is one legacy of 2020: the privatization of social justice. When writers like Williams speak of social justice today, theya re referring almost exclusively to the management of large companies, elite schools, and nonprofits backed by the wealthy. And why? Because critics of social justice tend to inhabit the exact professional milieu where social justice has been most thoroughly integrated with the endless pursuit of profit. It does not occur to Williams to ask why a Fortune 100 company would solicit a lecture from Thomas Chatteron Williams, a Black public intellectual who, just like kendi, tells people how to feel about race for a living. The social-justice warriors whom Williams most despises are not looters or rioters. They are people he encounters in the literary magazines he admires, the conferences he is invited to, and among his students and colleagues at Bard College; many of them are Obama Democrats whom he once regarded as comrades in the post-racial project. Liberal intellectuals like Williams have thus experienced the rise of DEI less as a generalized threat to the democratic oder and more like a personal betrayal by the institutions that they had, until recently, believed it was their job to defend. What they fear most is that liberals like them have been seudced by illiberal habits of thought. In other words, the greatest danger is not he barbarians at the gate; it's the barbarians safely behind it.

Black folks—and *actually* anti-racist non-Black people—should avoid the Atlanta Eagle / @atlantaeagle.bsky.social. Reasons in the screen shots below.

Photograph by Anthony Barboza of Kamoinge, the world’s longest running non-profit photography collective. 70s photograph of 2 men outside of shops with large signage. They’re both wearing hats, shades, long coats and dark suits with designer shoes. Very stylish.

Mnangagwa doesn’t have the same energy for lip service to Palestine as Mugabe’s performances of revolutionary discourse. This diplomatic move would effectively be full normalization. No more state investment in the patriotic histories of struggle (though compensating whites would’ve told you that).

Israel-Gaza war: Why is Africa divided on supporting Palestine?
Israel has made deep inroads into a continent traditionally sympathetic to Palestine. But its gains have limits too.
Superficially, the African Union has called for an end to normalization with and prosecution of Israel because of its genocidal violence in Gaza and withdrew observer status AT THE SAME TIME that too many of these states maintain strategic relations with Israel

It supported Rhodesian and apartheid South African militaries with both tactics and weaponry, further alienating it from the continent because of support for liberation struggles AND decolonization era solidarities with the Palestinian struggle.

I was writing abt Israel’s pariah statecraft during Nigerian Civil War in its support for the Federal Republic *and* Biafra. After its alienation of African & the Middle Eastern states after the 6-Day War — Biafra War began a month after Israel attacked Egypt — it pivoted towards apartheid regimes.

Columbia University notice of sanctions including expulsions
Columbia continues to destroy itself in the malign and stupid effort to hang on to Zionist and federal money (which it doesn't really need).
Today's slaughter includes the expulsion of the president of the grad worker union. A day before bargaining is due to begin.

2/2: As a result, the feeling—and the reality—is that Drake’s in an insincere outsider to hip-hop who’s mined the genre for $$. Hence “colonizer.”

1/2: That’s NOT a reference to Drake’s Jewishness though! It’s a reference to his extractive relationship to hip-hop & its roots: hood (think: Compton; Drake’s not from the hood); poor(er) & working-class (≠ Drake’s pedigree); and very Black (Drake has tended to distance himself from his Blackness).

Didn’t Microsoft downsize or entirely eliminate a DEI team this past fall? And Apple CEO Tim Cook both attended AND gave $1milllion to Trump’s inauguration.
