❄️ Six days under water. In total darkness and in bitter cold. So that Kyiv residents could have warmth in their homes.

As a result of a Russian missile strike, one of the capital’s combined heat and power plants (CHP) was flooded. A damaged pipe made repairs impossible, putting heat and electricity supplies for thousands of families at risk.

Without hesitation, divers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) entered the icy water, with air temperatures dropping to –15 °C. Darkness, cold, extreme conditions — and no option to “do it later.” For six days they worked where it was hard even to breathe, so that warmth could return to Kyiv homes.

This is a feat of humanism and self-sacrifice by rescuers that might have gone unnoticed. Yet it is precisely such rescue operations — and the people who take part in them — that keep Ukrainian cities from energy catastrophes.

Sincere gratitude to the personnel of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine for their courage, endurance, and professionalism!

❄️ Six days under water, in darkness and freezing cold.
After a Russian missile strike flooded one of Kyiv heat and power plants, DSNS divers worked in icy water (air temperature to –15 °C) to restore heat and power for thousands of families.
An act of courage that kept the city warm.

Today’s the b-day of the little UA girl who stayed with us some time when the war started. She’s now back in Kyiv and woke up by a RU missile attack.
Then we received a video in which she excitingly unpacks her presents under a x-mas tree.
Me: angry, sad, and immensely happy to see her joy.
